Final Visa Questions for now I hope

Featured Replies

Im in on a SETV  Thai Embassy in US. In late January or Feb 2019, I have to be in Cambodia. I will get my second SETV in PP and come back to Thailand probably via Hat Lek. At the PP Embassy, do I need proof that I am leaving the country (I will be in early April regardless)? If so, can I just make my res back to the US 90 days in advnace of the day I will renter and be done with it, or do I have to play the throwaway ticket game?

I will have to do a Visa Exempt run before the first of the year. Should I do that by air to KL, PP, or Vientiane or Siem Reap and than back to DMK, or overland via Mae Sot  or Mai Sai,  Nong Khai, Savannkhet or Hat Lek? Which way is going to let me slide on an onward ticket?  I can always prove cash. Whereever I go I will stay for a few days just to see the sights so if Cambodia is efficient, I can fly into Siem Reap and go to to Preah Vihear.

Burma of course is more expensive to get in than Lao or Cambodia, and is equally as boring as Vientiane. And Im too old to go to Vang Vieng.

I suggest Maesot. There are lots of cheap flights on Nok Air, and the border is just a couple of kilometers from the airport. You can walk across the bridge. Have perfect US $10 bills, and you get a cheap day pass for Myanmar. No problem on the Thai side when I was there, as long as you do not already have two land visa exempt entries this year.

Myawaddy on the Myanmar side is not very interesting, but there are a few sights and acceptable accommodation. You are allowed to stay up to seven days, but I would regard it as worth a single night, maybe. If you have never been to the area, I regard the Thai side to be worth exploring. Tak province has some beautiful scenery with a couple of national parks worth a visit. The area culturally has a feel different from the rest of Thailand.

They do not normally ask for a return or onward ticket at border crossings.

By air it might be the airline want the tickets out within 30 days for a visa exempt entry. Immigration seldom asks to see the tickets unless you have several entries and they decide to question you.
