You missed the key point.

"In practice" it borders all these countries

Glad you looked at an Atlas. You found Afganistan! Well done!

By the way you have Iraq in both lists

You really want to spar on this ?

In Practice Alaska borders Australia, no?Why not make up "key points" just for the sake of it, huh?

What did you want to spar on?

So what is the point of a forum such as this?

I am not allowed a view?

WRONG. I am and you warrant a complaint.

Could  you possibly pay attention to what you post and replies made?

Your original "view" was that "It would have been great to have a powerful ally in the area to balance Iraqi, Saudi, Israeli, Afghan and assorted nutters". My reply to that was that Iran becoming an ally anytime soon was never on the cards.

Your personal preferences are, indeed, immaterial in this context.

To put it otherwise, regardless of how one sees Trump's moves, Iran remains a dodgy player.

Maybe, but the USA today is a husk of its former glorious past.

Aren't we all. ?

Someone in the ME will likely start WW111 , so it might as well be Iran, who hates SA, and the USA etc, once they get their shiny new jets and missiles all operational. Way to go Donald!

A point of agreement, surprisingly.  Fact is, the present generations coming into power, the so-called Xers and millennials, have squandered their inheritance. But that is true in Western Europe as well. And they will all get their comeuppance, eventually. What with their pot bellies drooping over their skinny jeans, they will not be able to run away fast enough to avoid what is going to hit them. Couldn't happen to a more deserving group of people.
