Haha. I understood what you meant - you don't look at all like any Issan dude I've ever seen. Get the airhorn now - it's the easiest thing to do right away. And I think a taser by your bed would be a useful tool as long as your wife doesn't know how to operate it. As far as your "stuff" don't sweat it cause you've got insurance right?

Well mate i have been having a s++t few hours after what happened, your post has given me a good laugh, thank you.

Regarding a tazer, it would not matter if my wife knew how to use it, being paraplegic i have no feeling.:cheesy:

With one of these you could work it from your bed (probably the best bit of a rather lacklustre movie).

Well mate i will be getting a gun, because enough is enough, and believe me i have had enough.

If i had a gun last night the bar steward would be in hospital now, because i would have certainly used it, you are 1 of the only people on here who can understand my problem, it is bloody frightening being stuck on my bed, unable to stop things happening.

Yes Colin, I think you should get a gun, and never mind any laws that say you shouldn't. I always said and even acted on it back in the UK, if the police or courts will not do their job, then you do it yourself.

This is the first time anybody has climbed the gate, and yes i think just coincidence that it was the 1 night my wife was away.
Maybe knew your wife was away and thought you were to.

I too..am trained in the use of firearms.

However,I kept the Browning 9 mm (wife's) locked well away and in a safe downstairs.

I am extremely unsure of how a "self defense" plea would go in Thailand if you are a foreigner against a Thai.

You know what I am saying...

(No-one shoots to wound-it cannot be deliberately done in a crisis situation)

I do sort of know what your saying,  what I find strange is having gun in house that kills,  that's if don't get kill first before getting it out the safe..?

Seriously I would suggest to Collin if he wants to go gun route, go 15" barrel 870 Remington 12 gauge shotgun kept in his bedroom with a supply of rock-salt cartridges ready to load at the start of a incident.

They disable when used correctly not kill.

Good luck Colinneil.

Very difficult situation you are in.

Not necessarily a gun that kills in my view, not worth th the hassle if you kill someone unarmed.

Maybe some movement activated solar floodlights ?

hey you guys, wait for me. i want to play too! I am a cave driver!:cheesy:

I am an American and have a lot of experience with guns.

perhaps firing a "warning shot" into a wall of your bedroom might be of some value, but the problem with a gun is if you pull it out you must be prepared to use it.

otherwise, it could be taken away from you. What if you just can't make yourself pull the trigger, then what?

What if there are three guys in your house?

There is only killing the person you are shooting. Not wounding them. This stops the criminals from fabricating some BS story later. I know this sounds harsh, but a gun is a tool for killing, not wounding. If you want non lethal, get a taser.

you would have to devise a "quick deployment" system unless you just keep the gun laying around like in a holster on your bed post. I can't find my cellphone in my bed in the morning. :coffee1:

I have to say it took me a while to adjust to not having a gun in Thailand.

But I have never had the need for one here in sleepy Hua Hin.

In the states I had a Glock 40 cal., Mossberg A500 tactical shotgun and a AK-47 with 30 round clips. :shock1:  But all of that was locked in a gun safe.

Colin, Hafele now sells very high quality German designed steel doors and door frames that are sold in Thailand. They are designed for external use but would work for interior. Maybe you could rig up a way to slam the door from you bed.

I don't know what your yard is like, but you can get cactus plants that will grow fast at the nursery and plant them at the base of your wall.

Short open barrel auto shotgun takes care of that in no time.

I like the shot gun idea...Scare the shit out of anyone....?

If the fence is so easily jumped over , I would add another two feet of razor wire....nasty stuff, and will cut and rip the skin of anybody stupid enough to climb it. Lights and air horn are good suggestions. As for a Tazer, I am not sure they are legal for you in Thailand......the other thing would be a gun which your wife could purchase. You don't have to kill anybody, but a couple of shots will scare most people. Be good if you can get some blanks, but keep it quiet or the bad guys will know. So the first four shots are blanks, and then live bullets. But you will have to keep track of the shots you've fired. You could always say, "How many shots have I fired? So do you feel lucky punk....do you?"

Colin is in a wheelchair, anyone who tries to do him harm deserves to get killed, unarmed or not.

Anyway, Colin could not get anymore hassle than he has already.

A bit long for self-defence, now the 15" Remington is a whole different ball game.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

you know the "panic room" approach might be the most realistic solution.

I don't know if you have huge bedroom windows or sliding glass doors, but if you can put bars on the windows and a exterior steel door for your bedroom you are good.

You sound like one of the good guys Colin and I empathize with your situation. But maybe it's time to think about your own well being and peace of mind and move to a more secure locale. From what I've read here and some of your other posts it seems you're trying to keep the wife and family happy by remaining there (and I get it, being married to a Thai also). But if you don't have a secure feeling when going to sleep your quality of life goes way down. Maybe it's time to put yourself 1st vs your family. I'm sure the idea of moving is completely unsettling but what toll is the anxiety having on you? All the alarms, lights and dogs in the world aren't going to help when they go off and the cops don't even show. And how long is it going to take for you to get back to sleep after all that commotion with no resolution? IMHO living with all that stress is just not worth it, we're only around so long on this planet and I'm sure your wife and her family love and respect you enough to understand that decision. As I wrote earlier, time to put yourself first.

The windows in my bedroom have bars on, but the door and all of the wall the door is on is glass.

Reason for that was the first year i was home from hospital i was confined to my bed, the glass side was to give me a view of the outside, after all the recent goings on the glass wall was a bad idea, so we just have to live with it.

The door to my room is a glass sliding door.

Bit OTT , why not just connect his gate to the mains feed with a big puddle all around it. Switch it on at bedtime

well look on the bright side, this gives you a tactical advantage when you blast away with a shotgun. :cheesy: wide field of view.

It would certainly turbocharge the motability-scooter if he forgot to turn off before going out.

Good post mate, problem i have is being paraplegic i rely on my wife for most things that you can do for yourself

As my wife is also my carer, i must put her feelings first before my own.

Most other members on here can go to the toilet and do what is needed, i cant, i am permanently catheterised, and the other my wife has to clean for me.

It is now getting a very serious problem, and sadly i cannot find an easy solution.

How about a Super Shorty, effectively a professionally sawn-off shotgun? Would it be legal here?

I wouldn't want to be in front of it even if loaded with salt! Might make a bit of a mess of the wall mind.

its very sad for us to read about your problems, but i think its time your wife started to think about your feelings as you are obviously worried as i would be, you need to move and if she has any feeling for you she will be happy to go with to, so that you can feel happy and secure to see the rest of your days out in happiness if shes is not prepared to do this for you that tells me you need to look for a full time carer, i know it cant be easy but it must be possible if you can afford to pay someone a decent salary. good luck anyway.
