BANGKOK, 21st August 2018 (NNT) – The Deputy Prime Minister for Legal Affairs has congratulated the new Election Commission (EC) on taking office and engaged in a discussion concerning orders pertaining to political parties and the general election.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Kreau-ngam has met with the newly appointed group of EC members led by Ittiporn Boonprakong, congratulating them on assuming their positions. The DPM also engaged in a discussion with the panel concerning order 53/2017 of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), which deals with the activities of political parties, saying that the general election must take place as plotted on the national development roadmap on February 24, 2019.

NCPO order 53/2017 provides that bans on political activities by parties will be lifted for 90 days in the lead up to legislation on the election of Members of Parliament coming into effect without the need for instructions from the NCPO and that all limitations on parties will be lifted 150 days ahead of the general election.

On issues pertaining to the 616 election auditors, Wissanu indicated that the new EC panel has assured the electorate that it will continue the work of its predecessors so that senators can be sought by mid-September at the latest.

I'm sure he put a strong argument for the election to be postponed for only a week to February 31.

Discussions centred around how to keep opposition Parties gagged and restricted by current laws for as long as possible so as to allow the PM and the Junta Party to continue electioneering for as long as possible using the bottomless Thai Niyom slush fund.
