A 9 year old boy who was brutally beaten by a 65 year old monk at a temple in Kanchanaburi has died, police have said.

Suphachai Suthiyano, 64, stands accused of beating Wattanapol Sisawad, nicknamed Daeng, aged 9, with a wooden stick and hitting his head against a concrete pillar.

Both the boy's arms were broken, he had a fractured chin, blood on the brain and wounds and bruises all over his body.

According to AFP, Wattanapol, who had been in hospital since the attack on 19 August fell into a coma and died as a result of his injuries on Thursday night.

At the time of his arrest Suphachai said he beat the boy because he was naughty and had disrupted a prayer meeting after previously nearly burning down the temple school.

The boy’s mother, Sukanya Tunhin, 31, said her son was ordained back in April, having decided to leave him at the temple due to the fact that she does not have work and could not afford to feed him.

Suphachai who now faces a murder charge, has also been defrocked following the attack.

Wow....that will certainly have some impact on him!

In Thai Culture, will impact on him, as will be considered as "loosing face", as much, a sentence, as a court will hand down!!

I meant the 'defrocked' part will certainly have its impact....

...deal with it swiftly and efficiently...no press.  Justice

Why no press?   It should be as widely publicised as possible.  Punishment as a deterrent is pointless if no-one knows about the punishment.

There's discipline and then there is sadistic brutality....

Some monks need to study Buddhism a bit more !

Yes - Some monks has been saved from the society and/or the society has been saved by their removal due to different type of personal issues, disfunctionalities and/or mental disorders. This kind of invironment is not a place to raise a child...
