I tried to find answer to this question in previous posts but without success,

sorry if this has been covered before.

I will come from EU to LOS on long term with my mobile Phone,

I want to but a new Thai smart card with (obviously) the new number,

I have been there and my mobile works perfectly but I need to save

money and I do not want make internationals roaming for local calls.

Can you pls tell me what it means "unlocked" ?

I will use it only for domestic calls but if the rates are cheaper then here

I could even think to make calls from LOS to EU (at the moment I pay 3 Eur x Min from Asia to EU)

with it.

Any suggestion about the best operator, rates and compatibility will be appreciate !!

Tks and Cheers

Some carriers who subsidise the phones lock them so that only their SIM cards can be used. This can be undone easily if you ask around a few independant shops.

Thailand uses GSM 1800 and most European phones will be at least dual-mode GSM (The ones without SIM cards are CDMA) that covers the 900/1800 spectrum. Quite a few phones sold today are world phones that work just about anywhere but unless you plan a trip to north or south America, that should be unnessesary.

In short, most EU phones will work in Thailand, but double check to make sure the phone supports GSM 1800.

Providers in Thailand vary in their offers and service. Personally, I use D-Tac.

In general all dual band phones sold in Europe will also work in Thailand. Sim cards are cheap (250 baht including 50 baht airtime). There are several providers: D-tac, True, Happy and 1,2 call. The best coverage in my personal experience (used all of them) is 1,2 call which is AIS.

Yep, as others have noted, your phone should work just fine. Many European mobiles aren't even locked (unless they're linked to a pay-as-you-go provider), easily unlocked anyway.

AIS (1-2-Call) seem to get a bad press, but I've had no problems and the phone seems to work just about anywhere :o

Tks for your interesting reply and confirmation.

Yes my mobile is Quad Band (Motorola Razr 3V)

so I should not have any problems to buy and use the local SIM.

The phone come unlocked, I did check.

Looks to me that the mobile are cheaper here then in LOS in particular

if you buy those with eBay.

Let's say that for a new Razr average price is 90 Eur.

Tks again and regards
