A top police spokesman has commented on the as yet unsolved death of a German tourist found on rocks at Koh Phi Phi.

Pol Col Krissana Pattanacharoen said that national police chief Chakthip Chaijinda is being kept closely informed of developments.

Fifty year old Markus Steinbach was found on Tuesday evening in a sandy crevice on rocks near the Chao Thai Mai (Chao Le) cemetery.

He was fully clothed and had a green bag with him.

There were cuts to his nose and left side of his head and both ankles.

He had been staying in the Erawan Hotel and there was no sign of theft from the victim.

An examination by local medical personnel failed to ascertain a cause of death so the body has been taken for further examination from the morgue in Krabi to Surat Thani.

Pol Col Krissana, speaking at the RTP HQ, said it looks like the tourist fell but they want to be sure.

No explanation was given by Daily News as to why a case such as this was being commented upon nationally. Such matters are usually handled by local forces at the scene of incidents.

How on earth did they transport the body from Koh Tao to there !!

It is easy to ascertain whether he sustained the injuries by falling or he was attacked etc...He could have been placed there, pushed there ..etc etc German autopsy would easily explain ?RIP

Indeed. Well they managed to transport a French man living on Koh Tao to Surat Thani and leave him behind a school for 3 days without attracting the attention of dogs or vermin.

Now they all come here to die, one way or the other. R.I.P.

Land of the unexplained fatal impacts again?

RIP - too young.

Removed a troll post and the replies to it.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Of course at the age of fifty it is statistically quite likely that he may have just succumbed to a  heart attack and sustained cuts to his face falling on the rocks.

Still that's not very exciting is it - much more interesting to engage in wild speculations, with references to Koh Tao, murderous attacks, suicide etc....

Send in Big Joke.....24 hours later he will tell us that there was no murder. No crime at all, in fact. End of investigation.

The truth!!! ????

R.I.P

RIP

Time to rename the whole area Killing Fields. It's obvious: where there are many perishing there is a serious problem.

Please don't panic. I have been assured this will not negatively effect tourism.

So what should the UK be renamed ??

In 2014 approximately 1,640 people were perishing every day....  I don't recall there was any concern about that being a serious problem?

Thailand will win promotion soon

from peoples "bucket list" to "coffin List"

time to rethink your holiday destination if you wish to return home!

Utter nonsense - are you trying out for the Drama Queen of the year award? Statistically you have more chance of dying on the journey there (or anywhere)  than you do of dying there.

Nail and head springs to mind!

Rest in peace, Markus. I hope they will find out what happened to you.

I would think it makes for a interesting plot twist if he was dealing in real estate investments in Thailand as this guy seems to be doing.
