Certificate of Residency from UK embassy - anything changed?

Featured Replies

I'm returning to Thailand and intend to buy a used car for cash.  I know that I will need a certificate of residency, which I can obtain either from Thai immigration or my UK embassy.

The Thai immigration option is cheaper, but apparently slower.  I need the documents within a day or two of my return to Bangkok.

What's the current procedure to obtain this document from the UK embassy? ==> print a statement giving my address in Thailand, get that document affirmed by the UK embassy?

Do I need to get any documents issued by the embassy officially translated in Thai for the car dealer?

Are the documents still issued at the embassy building on Wireless Road?  Or do I go to Trendy Building to get them?

Have I forgotten anything?!

then scroll down to the section headed "Affirmation of residency".

Best to book the Embassy appointment ASAP to stand any chance of this being within a day or 2 of your return to Bangkok, I think.

Ojas, thanks for that link.  I booked well ahead for an interview in late October (a few days after I return to Bangkok from Myanmar).  This gives me time to arrange a rental contract document as proof of my address in Thailand.

Also do you know if the document provided by the UK embassy has to be translated into Thai before the car dealer will accept it?

Don't know the answer to this question, I'm afraid. But @ubonjoe probably does.

I would say yes it does. Some people have said they used one in English before.

I would default to getting it translated to save rushing to get it done if was needed.

Ubonjoe - do you know if I need to get an official translation stamped by some Thai government office?  Or can I just get a translation from one of the shops near the embassy?

Just the translation is enough. No need for it be certified by the Consular Affairs Department.

I have had several over the years, and always been in English and accepted. However, it seems to be the trend at the moment to submit documents in Thai or a certified translation.

You can get one from your local Amphoe office. I did last year to renew my driving licenses.

I know that Imm. offices differ around the country.  However, in my neck of the woods (Hua Hin) it takes less than 30 mins at the office.  Done it several times.
