You dreaming? As far as I know Singapore Airlines are the only customer to place a definite order.

The Good news is Singapore airlines fly into Manchester and Bangkok.

Sure they can land in Manchester but whether the terminal can handle all the people and have a tunnel to fit them I wouldn't know.

Pretty sure Manchester will have made required adjustments.

A Google of Singapore A380 will bring info though....! :o

I want to be one of the first to fly the A380. When will it be operated for the first time and by which airline?

Singapore Airlines will be the first airline in the world to introduce the A380 into commercial service in 2006. The carrier has already launched a 'first to fly A380' logo, which - for maximum effect - has been placed between the aircraft's twin row of windows, one of the new aircraft's most recognisable features.

To be the first to know about Singapore Airlines' A380, visit www.A380.singaporeair.com

Link for the above.
“Manchester is already equipped to cope with the A380 and I’m certain there would be interest for routes such as Manchester to North America and the Asia Pacific region.”

MMU Reserch Link to the above.

Note "Singapore Airlines will be the first airline in the world to introduce the A380 into commercial service in 2006." - and it's now 2007. What do BAe, The A380 and Suvarnabhumi international airport have in common? They are all in deep sh**! :o

Sorry, I forgot to answer the question.

Looks like Thai Airways is your best bet to fly London - Bangkok in a 380. Probably late 2008.

I believe that Emirates have a number of orders in for the 380 and they fly from Manchester via Dubai to Bangkok.

Having said that I'm not quite sure if it would be economic to fly an A380 from Manchester - Heathrow perhaps but I don't thnik they'd get a full load from Manchester.

Hi

Recently spoke to a guy who works for airbus, basically they have a problem with the electric loom. When they install all the aircon units and IFE it creates a short. They are trying to find the problem, its costing them a fortune and they could even pull the plug on the whole project.

They have yet to ask the government for any money, and they could refuse to help, if so Airbus will be no more as the compensation payouts will be enormous and the billions thay have lost on the 6 planes they have built already.

With all the current orders they still haven't broken even yet

That's overstating things in a big way. It would be the end of Airbus if they cancelled a whole aircraft family.

Besides, they fixed the problem a couple weeks ago and first delivery is planned for around October of this year.

They need 10 or 11 of them to bring the United supporters in for home matches. Oh, and they're getting a Fokker 50 to take the ones that live there to away matches :o

Hi

I spoke to the guy last week, they have now got one plane kitted out with seats and air con but still without the full IFE.

They took some journalists on a flight this week on the above plane, but it was still far from a complete ready to go plane.

October 2007, that would surprise me after listening to this French guy.

It would be a shame if it did all go belly up, as Boeing are right there to snap up all the cancelled orders, even though the Airbus is 30% cheaper to run

Boeing wouldn't have the manufacturing capacity to take up all those orders as they would have to double in size almost at once. I don't see the governments in France and the UK letting it go belly up in any case.

TG and Airbus recently jointly announced an agreement to push delivery of TG's first three A380s out 22 months from 2009 to early 2011. AFAIK, BKK-LHR, BKK-FRA and BKK-NRT have all been mentioned as possible A380 routes.

If the OP wants to fly a A380 early suggest they fly ex-SIN on SQ.

Funny <deleted>....! :o

I suppose your mute piddling excuse for an attendance all have Chelsea birth certificates, apart from the noisy away fans that is.... :D

Currently doing a project for Uni on this.......

Yes typical aircraft development costs are absorbed over the first 400 orders depending on the deal Airbus have offered the airlines. The rivalry with Boeing is so severe that in certain instances Airbus have offered huge discounts.

The interesting thing to this battle between the A380 and 787 is Boeing and Airbus's different opinion of future aircraft travel, ie hub to spoke or point to point. Airbus sees A380s flying into major hub airports like Dubai and then people splitting onto smaller planes for connecting flights to their final destination. Whereas Boeing developed the 787 to be able to fly longer journeys more economically so there will be a greater number of flights flying directly to the travellers destination.

Personally i'd rather get on a plane in Manchester and get off it in BKK 11 hours later rather than having to connect through a hub airport - not matter how flash the A380 is :o

How many airlines have "rights" (Fifth Freedom) to fly direct, non-stop between MAN and BKK?

Seriously a lot more goes into route planning and aircraft selection than what you or I want. Long and thin, short and fat, fat, thin, hub to hub, hub to spoke are all route structures that need to be considered.

And my rejoinder to the 787 is yeah, but can it accomodate a bowling alley and swimming pool?

Most people, experts and laymen alike, said similar negative things about the 747 program in the late 1960's. Of course the 747 program was fairly successful.

I have my doubts about the A380 but the only way to win big is to gamble big.

Agreed. Proably most A380 flights from BKK will be to Heathrow.

Huh, what a load of tosh.

Yeah, England is just London.....!!!!

Most flights I have ever taken have been from Manchester, I have not lived in the Manchester area, for 15 years.

But, if its a full load you want.....! :D

Leeds/Bradford, tiny Newcastle, tiny, I won't go on. Manchester is the only airport in the North able to accommodate the A380, no, we'll never fill it, we just thought we'd spend millions accommodating anyway............... :o

Manchester moves alot of freight and will need those upgrades to accomodate the A380F regardless of what passenger service is flown out of there.

are you gonna have any money left to buy a tic to LOS when the new Bus turns up? :D

Manchester wins super-casino race

Manchester has been chosen as the surprise location of Britain's first Las Vegas-style super-casino. $$$£££$$$

The decision is a blow for Blackpool and London's former Millennium Dome, which were the bookmakers' favourites.

The licence will allow Manchester to build a venue for up to 1,250 unlimited-jackpot gaming machines.

Meanwhile, licences were granted for new "large" casinos to Great Yarmouth, Hull, Newham, Middlesbrough, Solihull, Milton Keynes, Leeds and Southampton.

No idea about the fifth freedom but my guess is if someone thinks they can make money out of that route then the rights will be granted. However, as it is not possible to fly direct from Manchester already then maybe that answers my question.......

Bowling alley and swimming pool :o - personally i like a couple of whiskies followed by 8 hours kip to be woken up in sunny BKK.

I think you have confused the word "most" to "all"......................................

I did not say all flight on the A380 would be to Heathrow, I said proably most flights would :D
