Renewing Teacher License Without Degree

Featured Replies

I am in the process of renewing my teacher license or well my school is. I have been at the same school for two years and have never had a problem, they know i do not have a degree and have processed my teacher license with a tefel cert every year with no problem. This will be my third year and being that i only have tefel and experience, but no degree i am likely to be refused.

Information would be appreciated.

Cheers

According to the resolutions of the Teachers' Council of Thailand Board conducted on Sept. 19th, 2005 and widely quoted on this board you will now need to:

pass a test that evaluates your knowledge of Thai language and culture, profesional ethics and knowledge for practising the teaching profession.

Have an education degree; or other degrees with a foreign licence to practice the teaching profesion or a graduate diploma in education taking at least one year of study.

As this criteria covers around 1% of the current teachers working here (excluding international schools) hiring time is going to be a stressful time for schools especially.

True, but it's also going to be very stressful for a lot of teachers not knowing what to expect.

The big question seems to be will it apply to renewals and, if so, when will the "apply" kick in?

my money is still on that it's a load of <deleted>

I'll vote for the botox, or whatever the Brits call it.

You'll most probably get your work permit renewed, so long as you're in good relationship with your school, and they're in good with the authorities.

Thanks, Mopen, but OP isn't faking or lying about his docs. He's freely admitted to the school that he didn't have a degree and they got him a work permit based on that- this was ok in the past. The 64,000B question is whether this will continue to be ok. Moonhunter, we'll probably know when you know- if anyone else has already been through this part of the "new process," please post here. Everything seems to be up in the air and we probably won't know where things stand until the end of this year, if then.

You are right about the 64,000 question.

I only posted the link here because this is an active thread as opposed to posting the link elsewhere and have it die possibly unread by people interested in all that's going on regarding teaching in Thailand these days.

Where should it have been posted in your opinion?

Well, there's an ongoing "crackdown" thread featuring our friends from Pattaya in the News forum right now, and I see that Moonhunter has just opened a new thread featuring the article.
