HERO'S LAWSUIT

Vernon Unsworth – who is the Thai cave rescue diver suing Elon Musk for calling him 'paedo guy' and a 'child rapist'?

British diving expert Vernon Unsworth mapped the entire Chiang Rai cave system to save trapped schoolboys //DAN CHARITY - THE SUN

VERNON Unsworth played a leading role in the Thai cave rescue operation in which he helped save trapped schoolboys from Tham Luang cave.

But despite his heroic efforts the diver has come under repeated attack from the Tesla tycoon Elon Musk — who he is now suing. Here's the latest.

Who is Vernon Unsworth?

Vernon Unsworth is a 63-year-old financial broker from St Albans, Herts. He discovered his love for exploring cave systems in the Yorkshire Dales. The experienced Brit caver now lives in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

Before the Thai rescue operation, he had been in a number of rescue efforts in the UK, but "nothing on this scale".

Whatever he gets he should donate to charity. Man up you fool, you started it and now are milking it for far more than it's worth.

This is a pathetic side show that puts nobody in a positive light and only serves to make greedy lawyers and media sources mega money

Numerous people here on TV have suggested that "theres no smoke without fire"

How can you say that the "money he is likely to seek are staggering"?

Don't say anything bad now  . . . . . remember  . . . . his mum is watching   ?

There is a saying about lawsuits -- "Never get into pissing contests with skunks or people who buy ink by the barrel."   Everyone knows Musk is acting like a nut.  A lawsuit will only throw gas on a smouldering fire.  A lawsuit in the US over this issue will not get Vernon a single sitang.

We know who he is, how old he is, that he seems settled in Thailand with a beautiful Thai woman - like me - and that he learnt his caving in the Yorkshire Dales caves - like me - but who knows how this spat with Musk started? Two guys, both with very crucial but very different agendas; one to help save lives and the other, to help make a bit of useful publicity for his Spacex project . . . there's bound to be tension - resentment, even - if the agendas look like threatening each other. Just a pity that Elon, despite his entrepreneurial maturity, showed such a childish mentality when Vern didn't want to play with his toy.

Or maybe there's another reason for the outrageous name-calling, another reason that's still under wraps.

the other, to help make a bit of useful publicity for his Spacex project

This submarine had nothing to do with Spacex and was made by an unrelated company so you'll have to make up another stupid story. Elon was asked for help by the cave experts in Thailand and he delivered in spades. Everyone seems to ignore there in fact were many others besides vern and elon that rushed to the assistance of these kids and did all they could. For instance, there were people trying to bore holes down the mountain to the kids great distances. Others rappelling down enormous chasms trying to find a way in. And so on. There is no reason to trash any of these people. They all shared a common goal and concern of helping the trapped kids get out. And there you are--you did  nothing. Just a useless person at the keyboard bashing people.

What Vern did to Elon was a shameful, despicable, and bewildering act he should be ashamed of and apologize for.

short and to the point.  well said.

Just common greed. This guy wants the money. If he has balls to rescue those children, he can take one nasty word. He made Elon mad saying something first if I remember right and Elon really tried to help in my opinion and got angry.

He is a Hero for what he did. Just wanted to help get those petrified kids out alive.

Hope he wins a great amount from the Musk. I just see us$75k. That is peanuts to Musk.

I believe Vern has a couple good lawyers that offered their services more of less for free.

The lawsuit in the USA will be in the millions if Verns lawyers go for a jury court case.

THIAN:

just read your comment, what has this done to give Thailand a bad name. What Vern did was help to give Thailand a good name. And being read all over the world, it showed the resorces that the Government sent in bloody fast,

You should put your brain into opperation before you open your mouth.

Only on page 2 of this esteemed forum and barely anyone made the effort to get the facts:

"According to the lawsuit, Unsworth is seeking $75,000 (£57,000), plus punitive damages, and he has denied all of Musk's claims."

Below points of the lawsuit.

why such a small amount. Its a bit weird isnt it? If he persued this in a U.S courtroom surely he could get millions. He sounds a bit clueless if he is only going for 70k

It's the punitive damages that will be in the millions if he wins the case....

I think both the hero and the billionaire have been childish. The hero tells the billionaire through the media he can shove his tube up his..... and then the billionaire uses the media to make a horrible unsubstantiated claim against the hero...

yeah,  kinda reminds me what happens between posters on TV  every day.   i think some wise person named it EGO.

Don't want to get too philosophical,  but probably the main reason so many cannot just get along..... or at least live and let live.

The paltry amount asked for is a gambit, hoping the jury will say What the Heck, it is only a small amount so vote for the guy to win.  THEN the judge decides punitive should be a billion dollars or more. Just a lawyers gamble to win jury votes.

Musk should not have wound up the 'diver who never dived in the cave' in response to his stupid "shove it up your ****  comment. It's all silly but Musk should not have said it.  What's all this 'hero' stuff from some posters?  anyway they both have big mouths.

Calling someone's product "rubbish" is not in the same league as being called a Paedophile in return.  Long after all this is over, there will be many people who will associate Vern's name with that taunt, while Musk's product will be long forgotten.  Some mud always sticks.

Boy, canopy, that's quite a temper you got, there. I, like most posters, criticised Musk for his motives and remarks, yet you set off on your 'There is no reason to trash any of these people' rant. You're not a shareholder by any chance, are you?

2 wongs don't make it right. Musk did go too far, but sometimes u need to keep ur mouth shut and let people implode on themselves.
