Cyclists participating in 2013 Bangkok's 'Car Free Day' event.

BANGKOK — The capital’s two major commuter rail systems will embrace City Hall’s annual Car Free day Saturday, but only for cyclists.

The operators of the BTS and MRT lines said all services would be free tomorrow for those with bicycles, while some roads will be briefly closed for a cycling event celebrating the day.

So will I get free travel if I turn up in lycra shorts and a daft helmet, or must I take my bike onto the train?

Which begs me to ask the question, why are cycle helmets streamlined/ And motor bike ones not?

Don't miss a real time update texted and send via phone, from our reporter at the scene in his car while stuck in traffic jam, caused by hundreds of cyclists.

Hate to be Captain Obvious here, but all those bikes in the limited confines of a relatively narrow BTS/MRT car with limited egress?  What could possibly go wrong especially given the Thai propensity of having to be "Me First" through the doors and a Jai Yen attitude that disappears and turns ugly with the first unintentional bump?  If there was an accident, I sure would not want to be on that train.
