February 10, 200719 yr Hi I am 44 and living in Thailand with Non Immigrant B visa and work permit. I set up a company in order to get the work permit and consequently the visa. I pay taxes on a virtual salary of 50,000 baht/month and ensure a payment of a minimum of taxes for the company too (which own a small land by the way)... My wife (non thai) and 2 children 5 and 10 years stay here on my visa so far I am not sure I will be able to obtain visa extension based on this. And I dont want to really enter in a 'heavier' business just for the visa. And since I am too young too obtain the retirement visa I have a question: QUESTION: Can I ask for my wife and I a supporting visa based on the children education? PS: I dont intend to work in Thailand. Just planned to came here to build house, write books... I have and can maintain ~800,000 bahts on my bank account. And I found the visa issue quite a nightmare nowadays Thanks

February 10, 200719 yr Author Thanks Rav but my question was for my wife and I : is it possible and how to get a visa based on supporting our children here ?... Edited February 10, 200719 yr by fleming

February 10, 200719 yr Can't split the two kids? One for each? I have heard it happen ( splitting up the parents on different dates to go to Immigration) However, we understood Immigration wasn't happy when they saw this happen once. www.sunbeltasiagroup.com
February 10, 200719 yr Author Thank Lopburi3 and Sunbelt for your input Both child go to school and you raised the point> 'split' : one child ... one visa.... If they make difficulties on my Non B renewal it will be probably my last resource... but paradoxally if I succeed in that, I will save a lot of money and Thailand will loose some precious taxes: Taxes on work permit (I wont need it) - I declare 50000 per month: around 50000 baht per year of taxes and if I dont get any visa ... Taxes on company - I declare a fake profit of 100,000 baht per year .... plus various amounts paid to accountant (8000 b /year), lawyer (20000/year) and s.o. ... I just wonder where will be Thai government advantages in setting such hurdles? what kind of farang they want to get rid of... at the end of the game, Thai citizens will suffer of this: lawyer cabinets, real estate, owners of land (not onle rich people but also farmers and fishermen), and numerous of intermediaries which live on farang resident. Probably they just want extra tea money ... their ability to make trouble is sometime compensated by a fabulous way to solve them when hearing the musical of a 1000 baht note! Proper paperwork is what makes it - money comes second to that.
February 11, 200719 yr They probably want to get rid of foreign mafia types, just as any other country would want to do. Not many countries allow people to live on a semi permanent basis without such rules and regulations.
February 11, 200719 yr I am almost in the same situation as yours. Living in Phuket with my wife and 2 kids ( 2 and 4) My wife and i have a non im B and my kids a non im O ( i know my kids could have done without). I have a new car and i bought a 12mios baths condo . I dont work and dont want to am under 50 and my wife is not thai. I can do like you set up a fake company but it looks like it is more complicated these days I can buy a family elite card for the family and get a 5 years visa avoiding all the hassle of visa run and WP ( if the cards survives of course). I spend more than 200K baths a month so i think that even if i dont work and dont pay taxes my money spent is good for thailand ( VAT ...). Are there others possibility i missed? perhaps having tourist visas but not sure you can have a lot in a row?

Is it still 1mios bahts for 5 years visa? + 40,000/years for extras. do you know conditions for family? I never heard of that before... More costly than WPermit issue but certainly more relaxin for the mind... except if they decide suddenly to stop the program (I heard there is No disclaimer in case of cancellation)

Only one parent can be the dependent for the children with 500K in the bank.www.sunbeltasiagroup.com Can you confirm this 500K. The first time we did this for my wife as a care taker of my daughter we had to get 800K together. This year we did it again and I just thougth I needed 800K again, which was a pain this time, especially given the exchange rate. Has the law changed now only requiring 500k?

February 12, 200719 yr I wiil not try to quote the law but can tell you of my own experience. We have 2 children 1 parent as custodian of each. 800,000 baht had to go into each of our bank accounts!!!! We prepared everything back and forth checking with immigration that it was all correct. Took the children out of school for the day went down to immigration and we were told everything was fine and our paperwork would be sent to bangkok for approval and in the mean time we needed to come back every 30 days until in came back from Bangkok. The officer then said I see you are old enough for a retirement visa (my husband) why don't you do that it is much easier. We explained that last time I was rejected on the spouse retirement visa because I was too young even though my husband qualified. She said that was wrong. She told us to go get a medical cert from the hospital and bring it back and she would issue the retirement visa. So in the end we did not get the custodian visa but did go through all the steps leading up to it. On the subject of no visas for children we were told if they are 7 years or older they must have a visa. Also if they are in school here they must have an education visa. Prior to the age of 7 they are not subject to overstay fines.

April 30, 200719 yr Last week i was in my lawyer office. I asked him about ED visa one for me with on eof my kid and one for my wife with the other one ( we are not married and the kids have both names) He didn't know the answer, so called the immigration and was told that it was possible to get 2 ED for my wife and me . My non im B if finishing in July ( i can get permission to stay till october by visa runing in july) so i will start the process for the 2 ED and will post here the results
April 30, 200719 yr I mean ED for the kids and O for the parents supporting kids ( 2 and 4 years old) Regarding parents bringing children into Thailand to attend school, Capt Krissarat said, “Foreign parents whose children will study in Thailand can apply for non-immigrant ED visas for their children at any Royal Thai Embassy outside Thailand. “The parents can apply for non-immigrant O visas for themselves so they can enter the country and care for their children here, and then they can apply for permits to stay at the Immigration office after entering the country. “Alternatively, if the parents are not going to be staying in the country long, they can get a tourist visa from an embassy or enter on a visa exemption,” he said. “Many international schools in Thailand help parents prepare applications for permits to stay,” Capt Krissarat said, adding that children under 14 years old are not fined for an overstay.
May 2, 200719 yr Hi, I'm also under 50. My defacto wife and our 2 and half year old son moved to Phuket from Perth, Australia. We obtained multiple entry non immig B visas for myself and my partner and an O type visa for our son. How do I go about transfering one of us and our son to an education visa? Do you still have to go on a visa run every 90 days? Also, I don't have a work permit, is it possible to get an extension on our 1 yr non imm B visas? If so how? Is there any way to avoid having to go on visa runs? Thanks in advance, Aidan Power Edited May 2, 200719 yr by rewopnadia

Do you still have to go on a visa run every 90 days? You need 500,000 Baht in the bank for three months prior to applying for the dependent extension of stay permit. Copy of your sons education visa in his passport, birth certificate of your son. Also, I don't have a work permit, is it possible to get an extension on our 1 yr non imm B visas? You stated you had "O" visas. With most visas( except for tourist, and in some cases, retirement), you can get a work permit. If so how? Is there any way to avoid having to go on visa runs? If you have been granted a extension of stay based on a foreign family member is going to school in Thailand. No need for visa runs. www. sunbeltasiagroup.com
January 10, 200818 yr If you are planning on being granted an extension of stay based on a foreign family member going to school in Thailand, is there any advantage to getting a Non.-Imm. Multiple entry vs. a single entry visa from the USA?
January 10, 200818 yr Not if the student already has an extension of stay - but if student does not have an extension of stay and it may take longer than 90 days to obtain you will not be able to obtain such so the multi entry would be an advantage until the time you can extend.
