REUTERS/Phil Noble LIVERPOOL, England (Reuters) - Britain's opposition Labour Party will vote this week to keep a second Brexit referendum on the table if Prime Minister Theresa May fails to pass her plan to leave the European Union through parliament, media reported. Earlier, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said he would back a second Brexit referendum if his Labour Party voted to pursue the move, heaping pressure on May, whose plans for a divorce deal with the EU have hit an impasse. He also said he preferred a new election to a new referendum on Brexit, reluctant to back growing demands to support a "People's Vote" on Britain's decision to quit the EU for fear of losing those Labour members who voted to leave. After about a five-hour meeting of party members, Labour will vote on a motion that according to the BBC and Guardian newspaper, says: "If we cannot get a general election Labour must support all options remaining on the table, including campaigning for a public vote." Britain is to exit the EU in March next year. But little is clear after May's plans for Brexit - the biggest shift in British policy for more than four decades - were resoundingly rebuffed by the EU on Thursday, with any outcome of the negotiations more uncertain than ever. With talk of a new election swirling and chances of a disorderly departure that could damage the economy rising, the opposition party is under pressure to set the Brexit agenda. But it is not clear how far the new motion will take a party that has said for some time has said that a second referendum is not off the table. Popular Post z42
Agree with a whole raft of Corbyn's visions, however a second Brexit referendum is absolutely unacceptable at this stage. The EU have shown they are not accepting of democratic results and have made it their agenda to punish the UK for leaving. The UK would be best served in the long run by setting its own trade deals with non-EU states as a primary. Single market access is the EU's only major trump card now. For normalcy's sake it is better to be in it, but longer term is it worth hanging on. Interesting times ahead 3 2
Popular Post Thailand
A vote winner if ever there was one. Could see a whole new perspective emerging. The EU will do what they need to do to make sure others considering an exit will think long and hard 1 1

Hard to say what will happen but agree Corbyn's vision. 2

The UK turned its back on the Commonwealth when it joined Europe, leaving pain and hard feelings behind. Those countries have rebuilt without British/Europe trade... why would they go backwards? 2

Popular Post dunroaming
John McDonnell has said that he doesn't think a second referendum should include a remain option and so did Len McCluskey. Never thought I would agree with either of them about anything but this time I do. As a remainer I think that leaving the EU is a mistake and nothing I have heard, so far, changes that view. And a second referendum including a remain option may well mean Brexit being stopped but the bitterness would be untenable. In my opinion we are already far too split as a country and the divisions would just deepen and we would be in danger of destroying the fabric of our society. So for me, I feel we have to accept that we are going to be worse off, we are leaving the EU and find the best compromise. I do think there should be a peoples vote on the final options on the table but those options need to be the final ones and not ones that will go back and be tweaked yet again. Those options should represent a real balance and crucially each one should be laid out with their actual consequences. No fudging and no more bullsh*t!
