I haven't used the bridge to Savanakhet yet, but I have crossed by boat more than a few times. It's an experience, if I didn't have to go again, I wouldn't.

Try it one time TB, if you are a fan of grime..... you'll love it., the place is filthy :D

First time I went, we asked the Tuk Tuk driver to take us to the best hotel, ended up at a guest house.

Opened the fridge and found two bottles of water, seals broken, put it back straight away.

Wifey speaks Laos...... no she doesn't.

Eating by the river, a little girl drops her undies and defecates next to our table.

Lao Beer is good though :D ..... and very good French bread.

It's not worth the entrance fee, but then it can be from an educational point of view, but I was so glad to get back to Thailand.

That's it ...... think Thailand is bad ...... go to Laos for a few days :D

Hi Thad

Hmmm :o Not sure what to say now... other than I like french bread!!!

Don't have to go for visa reasons, just looking for somewhere different to go biking for a day or two without having to resort to planes.

Thanks again for input.

PLEASE can anyone tellIF the bridge is actually OPEN now? I am not so much interested in how lazy/dirty laos may seem on a random visit, have been there also.

Reason i ask: was here in LOS last dec, bridge was opened by crownprince, but NOT for the genral public as ''some questions had to be solved''/ Why they cold not simply use the existing rulesd from the NgKhaibridge/ Thailand seemed to be too reluctant to let in right-hand drive VNese trucks (after all Thailand wanted a 3 nations highway....). Was away last month and right now back but cannot find any POSITIVE response to thios. So if anyone lives there? Or else try the Isan forum.
