Torrent Sites And The Eyeball

Hi,

Try this site: http://w3.mict.go.th/ci/blocked.html

("torrentspy .com" - not what you get)

Note the 'cyberclean' eyeball.

Now try it with the IP address: http://82.192.86.142/

Note, you can get to the site now, but there is a cyberclean eyeball in what looks like a banner add.

Now try: http://members.chello.nl/~p.wiersema/list.html

I only saw it the first time in Firefox, but a pop-up with the eyeball came up.

So, I'm wondering, what, in Thai, are they trying to tell me?

If I hit a URL and get the eye intead, that's understandable. It's blocked.

But if the eye shows up overlayed in the page or in a pop-up, what should I think?

My natural reaction is to close the page and figure I'm being spied on, so to speak. That is, if I use the site, it will be logged somehow and I could be prosecuted. Paranoid?

I am really surprised by this. Why isn't the site simply blocked?

Maybe they are trying to warn that it is a grey are that can be used for good or bad. Will they decide this based on behavior that they can track?

Shivver. I'm pissed.

Ok, no replies.... :o

But maybe I know why - I'm just slow.

I think I figured out what's going on. Today I tried the links above again.

Turns out that the pop-up is for a gambling site, and cyberclean is showing up in that pop-up. I could see the page title in the title bar of the pop-up - that's how I found out what it was.

From that, I surmised that the "banner" I see in the IP for torrentspy is there because the banner is coming from a link that is blocked by cyberclean.

Being a guest in this country, I must accept their style of censorship, like it or not. At least I understand what's going on now.

Hope this helps anyone else who wonders.
