A 18-wheeler trailer truck crushed a man and his granddaughter to death at an intersection in Chon Buri's Sri Racha district on Thursday evening.

The truck driver, Samai Hokechaona, 57, was arrested and charged with reckless driving causing deaths.

Police say his truck ran over a motorcycle ridden by Bamrung Ruennarong, 69, killing him and his granddaughter, Benjamaporn Muansakhon, 4.

The traffic lights had just turned green and the motorcycle was crossing the intersection when the truck crashed into it.

The truck driver is reported to have said he did not see the motorcycle, that he heard a sound and then saw that by-standers were looking at him so he stopped, checked and found that two people had died.

Does not say who ran the red light ,lights had turned green for who,i guess it must have been the bike as it takes a while to get a truck up to speed,no doubt he was barreling along and ran the red, where i live a 4 way intersection about 1 km up road, everyone very cautios as they cross have been many deaths there.

In Thailand, the green light may mean you have the right of way but you always

have to check the intersection to the right for the traffic, flashing their lights letting

you know that they are not going to bother stopping for their red light. RIP and

condolences to the family.

Yeah.  Sounds like the bike timed things so they went through the intersection at speed just as the light turned green.  Nothing particularly wrong with that, except it assumes the cross traffic stops.
