My first back-to-back tourist visa in KL

Featured Replies

Hi everybody,

i'm going tomorrow to apply for my first back-to-back tourist visa at the KL embassy (my first one was issued by them too), do you think that is gonna be an issue? Or, would they put this red notice on my second visa saying they are not issuing any anymore in the future?

I am not aware of the KL embassy doing any stamps on visas they issue. I can only recall reports of them refusing to accept applications.

There should not be a problem getting another one there unless they see you have several other tourist visas from other nearby embassies and consulates. If difficult to predict what they will do since there have no been enough recent reports by people applying for visas there.

KL is more friendly than they used to be (as Penang has become more difficult), but I would not have chosen that location for a 2nd in a row.  If only the 2nd TR Visa in your passport, you might be ok - but I don't recall many reports from that consulate to compare with.  Please let us know how they respond.

Ok i will, if i apply there. I'm not sure i will because i don't want to take the risk of having a red stamp on my visa.

I would be more concerned with refusal than a red-stamp.  Vietnam, Myanmar, and Hong Kong are options which I would choose if I were in your situation (visa-count in passport).  Laos would be safe as well, but you could be successful there with more previous TR Visas from other consulates in your passport - so better to save it for later, if planning to obtain more TR Visas in the near-future.

I got one on 20 September. It was my 3rd from KL, though not consecutive, and the first one from KL in this passport. I had also two from Vientiane in this passport. They were friendly. Follow (and print) the checklist on their website.

It would be my last choice to apply given it's back to back.

As said, they are more likely to not accept the application than issue a red stamp. Or accept the application and return the passport with a cancelled/voided visa.

As far as we know, visas in previous passports are not being counted by any consulates at this time.

What if i go to Penang instead of Kuala Lumpur? I think that will be safer for me since i have no tourist visas from Penang on my passport...

Recent experiences suggest Penang looks at tourist visas from other consulates also, in deciding whether to give you a red stamp (which makes future tourist visa applications hard). While Penang was a good place to apply until a couple of years ago, I think it should now be avoided. Currently (while we have too few reports to be sure) indications are that Kuala Lumpur is better.

There is a risk that i get a red stamp from Penang even if i have only one Thai tourist visa in my passport??

Probably not. However, be aware that they seem quicker to use the red stamp than anywhere else at this time. I would avoid them, but you will likely be OK if you go there anyway.

You should contact one of the agents in Penang. They will have a better idea of what the consulate will/won't accept.
