A man shot dead his estranged wife in Samut Sakhon's Muang district on Wednesday morning before drinking herbicide and fleeing the scene, police said.

The Bang Tho Rad police station was alerted of the shooting at a house in Tambon Chaimongkol in Muang district at 6.30am.

Panthip (surname withheld), 45, was found with gunshot wounds to her stomach and right wrist and died at the scene.

Her son, Amornthep (surname withheld), 21, told police that the gunman was his father, Thanapon, 46.

Amornthep said his father had found a new girlfriend several months ago, prompting his mother to move out and go and stay with her mother. But after recently breaking up with the girlfriend, his father had asked his mother to return. She refused, which may have angered him, Amornthep said.

Police say Thanapon also shot and slightly injured Panthip's close friend, Thaworn Skultem, 43.

Thaworn told police that she stayed with Panthip to help her take care of her elderly mother.

Thaworn said she heard gunshots, ran to check and found Panthip lying on the floor. Thanathorn then turned the gun on her but the bullet only grazed her cheek. She played dead as Thanathorn walked up and tried to shoot her two more times, but the gun jammed.

She said she saw Thanathorn drink herbicide and speed off on his motorcycle in the direction of Ban Paew district.

Shot at friend - I'm guessing point blank - just grazed her cheek, she hits the floor playing dead, no grabbing of face, no scream or shout, no movement at all. He fires 2 more times - clearly point blank - and the gun jams. She watches him drink herbicide. He doesn't notice. That is one seriously lucky lady....or not. I don't know what went on, but the odds of that happening are lottery winning high.

Hope the Herbicide worked

Drinking herbicide won't affect him. The doctor's representing the chemical companies swore on oath that it was harmless.

These stories do get old and repetitive. Thai man, new woman, gets dumped, wants old one back, she wisely tells him to ****off, bang, bang. Hard as hell to legally buy a gun in Thailand but the average druggie has no problem.

So may guns available in Thailand for just a handful of cash !!

Many years ago in England there was a cry to ban handguns because of criminality.

Eventually the cries won the day so all handguns owned by legal citizens were confiscated... guess what

statistics proved that gun crime was just as high with availability just as easy !!

Guns are owned by thousands of Thais and are just as available on every street corner... that coupled to the hot tempered Thai ego is a recipe for this kind of out-come !!

Hope the weed killer takes effect quickly & he's found face up in a ditch somewhere !
