Ed visa but work in O&G industry

Featured Replies

Anyone got any info if it's possible for me to get an ED visa in thailand while working offshore? And if so is there any implications

i'm on 4/4 rotation but need to travel back to the UK every time i finish my trip to do biometrics for my visa application as i'm only getting issued a TWP singlue issue visa from nigeria for the time being

I looked online and it's confirmed that i can only apply from the Nigerian embassy in Bkk if i have a visa that isn't a tourist one

Any info on this is appreciated as it would save me travelling to the uk from nigeria then onto Bkk over the space of a day and a half

Cheers

You need to study for an ED visa

Possible, but not practical. You could have problems re-entering, as a student, having stayed out so long. And you are supposed to attend x number of hours per week in class.

I think "no TR" amounts to them wanting you to be on a Non-Imm Thai Visa-entry or extension-of-stay.  These would require investment (10M Baht), school (regular-attendance), working / operating a business, volunteering, over-50, or Thai family.

If it were me, I would visit the Nigerian Embassy in BKK and explain your 4/4 work situation (as evidenced in your passport), explain that you spend your off-time in Thailand, and see if they can make an exception to allow you to apply for your work-visas there while on a TR-type entry in Thailand.  They may give you the "rules are rules" speech and be of no help - but it would be worth a try.  A letter from your company asking them to help might also be useful (or not).

Also, if similar to Thailand, each Nigerian embassy/location may have its own rules - so could check out Kuala Lumpur and other closer locations - which might be easier to visit on the way back to work from Thailand.
