Thailand camp site 1980

Featured Replies

Hello,

i need some help obtain my certificate. I was born in Thailand camp site. My father is thai and my mother Cambodian Chinese. Now that I found my father and wish to live in Thailand with him in the near future but I can’t get my Thai ID card without my birth certificate. I have contact the thai embassy in Washington and no luck. UNHCR no response. Email almost everywhere no reply. Please everyone help me how can I do this. I’m really stuck

If you have found your father why cant he help and sort this out for you as he is Thai, rather than you as you are the other side of the world (apparently).

As far as I'm aware , Thailand only issues one birth certificate (at birth) , they dont give replacements

Does you Father have full Thai citizenship (I.D)

Do you have travel documents ?

You could come to Thailand and apply for citizenship through DNA tests .

Best to ask ubonjoe though , he knows all about visas and things though .

He usually has an early night , so, better to ask him in the morning

I have been to Thailand many times and I have dna test. Thank you very for the information

A Thai embassy or official consulate can only issue birth certificates for those born in the country where they are located.

The Amphoe where you were born is the only place where could get proof of your birth and Thai nationality. If your birth was registered that is where you will have to start to get things sorted out.

Contact the migration specialists at a University such as Columbia University in the USA. They sometimes assist persons in your situation.

When I was born, I wasn’t registered yet

If your birth was not registered, this will probably be tough. Assuming you can afford it, get a well connected immigration lawyer in Thailand to help. Proving you are, indeed, the son of your Thai father (with your birth not being registered) is going to prove your father guilty of a crime.

I think he can get it done himself at an Amphoe with his father's and other family members help.

Not really a crime for not registering the birth. At the most a fine of 500 baht.

I been working on that for the past 2 years. And now they’re trying to make me leave the US citizen and only have one citizen

They  cannot make you give up your US citizenship. The nationality act does not state you cannot have both nationalities.

Perhaps a little help from the village head man for where you father is living or the Kamnan for the tambon where he is living. Sometimes they can assist with such things at an Amphoe. Sometimes a little tea money or gifts helps to grease the wheels.

Thanks. I don’t mind giving tea money. But I do t which one is the person to do it with. Since they don’t give out much details
