Body to rule on juvenile director’s future

A Department of Juvenile Observation and Protection-assigned disciplinary probe committee is due to conclude whether to dismiss Phichit juvenile centre director Nusara Saennam with or without a pension by the end of the month.

The decision would follow the ruling by the Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct to give her a five-year jail term for abusing a government vehicle for personal gain, said department director-general Sahakarn Petchnarin on Thursday.

The use of the vehicle for transport to work and during weekends and holidays on personal errands took place when Nusara started as the Phetchabun director in 2008 and led to a complaint being filed to the Office of Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), which led to a criminal prosecution, he said.

Sahakarn said the disciplinary probe committee, established last year, would submit its result to the Justice Ministry board by the end of October.

He said disciplinary and criminal action were two different procedures although the former could take the court ruling into consideration.

He said Nusara can still appeal against the verdict in the upper courts.

How about a compromise of letting her have a pension based on what she has after all her 'personal gain' has been paid back

She gets five years jail for doing the shopping in the department's car while there are tens of thousands of civil servants robbing treasury blind with their internal scams. This penalty seems a bit over the top. Seems that someone with good "connections" is after her job.

Whilst high-ranking cops only get moved sideways for stealing millions from their staff. How obscene is Thailand prepared to allow its justice (ha-ha) system to sink?

Using a company car for shopping is hardly a major crime worth 5 years jail.

Can't she just go to a temple for a week and shave her head?

But...but...but...the Junta must, with an election looming, demonstrate the fantastic efforts they are making to search out and punish the hardened criminals like this lady, who had the cheek to use the company car for some personal errands.  A five-year sentence and possible loss of pension is absolutely ridiculous for such an offence, which in many Western countries is normally treated as an offence of not paying tax on the benefit and resulting in an internal disciplinary action.

Meanwhile, the actions of thousands of officials who are guilty of real corruption every day, which is well known not only to the public but also to all the officials' bosses, many of whom take a cut of the spoils, is completely ignored, or, at worst, subject to a move to a back office for a few weeks or months.  We are still awaiting the verdict on a certain official who "borrowed" several million bahts of expensive watches from a "dead" friend (as we all tend to do) and also on the state officials who accepted massive bribes from Rolls Royce.  These issues are merely swept under the carpet, along with hundreds of others, including some where the criminals mysteriously manage to leave the country unnoticed, despite supposedly being closely watched by the Army and the police.

Corruption being dealt with?  Only as far as the the little people are concerned, since the law clearly does not apply to those higher up.!  Surely the Thai public are not being fooled by these recent pathetic demonstrations of the Junta's supposed determination to wipe out corruption?

This lady has obviously upset someone higher up, and now they will make an example of her.

Using a car for personal use goes on every day, everywhere, but she has been picked out for draconian punishment, pathetic bloody pathetic.
