The junta does little else other than blame, apologize

....and never accept responsibility or be held accountable for anything!

Seems to be an ingrained cultural trait. AKA - blame someone or something else? ????

To still be on the payroll Gen Prawit Wongsuwan most certainly knows where the bodies are buried. What other reason could there be for this fossil still being around?

Maybe an apology to the whole World would be in order, due to Thailands poor safety record, and attitude on a whole where Tourists are concerned.

Grovelling to the embassy might be one thing but convincing the people who actually make the bookings and spend the money might take a little more effort and intelligence.

Exactly what I was thinking... a nice marketing strategy by the man but he ain't buying the tickets, getting assaulted or worse dying at the hands of the Thais...

Having been in BKK for part of Golden Week and Chiang Mai the rest, I would say that Chinese numbers are down a lot.

Quite a few present in the big name malls but definitely less in Chatuchak and other tourist areas. In Chiang Mai I would say definitely down a lot.

There does seem to be a rise in European tourist arrivals from what I see.

I know its difficult to just cast a glance and say trends but these are areas I have seen through the Chinese boom arrival years and its definitely not the same.

Yes alot less Chinese and buses along Beach rd in Pattaya. Especially for golden week , bronze for Thailand.

In the middle of all this China arselicking I'm harboring an evil thought, what if the Chinese are reading TVF and have finally taken the clues?

This puts the 500 Bahts and a Wai thing into a whole new dimension. I think the Thai brain needs investigation..

It's interesting to observe the Chinese on the tourism front. They (Chinese government) have successfully started to weaponize tourism and the Chinese tourists are herded (to some extent at least) to where they are told to go.

And China said "you will do what you are told"!

That's what you have with communism: command economy and now command tourism.

It’s got nothing to do with random incidents....worse things happen in China on a daily basis...fact is that their currency is down and their share market has tanked 15 percent......the trade war has them worried so they have cut back on the overseas jaunts a little....if these things deteriorate further then things will get even more quiet.........the Thais should not put all their eggs in one basket .

A modern extension of the traditional Chinese tribute system.

It is what it is.

''Prawit Says''.   Don't really need to read on after that do you but these Clowns would say Tourism won't be affected even if someone was dropping Nuclear Warheads on Thailand !

It's pretty clever. Next step is their pioneers start to settle the target (Seen the place with large Chinese ads and minuscule English at the end of Jomthien? Looks like ground zero), form their enclaves and slowly weave their ways into the economy, then government and end result .. well, Thailand. This has already been done: https://newleftreview.org/II/97/benedict-anderson-riddles-of-yellow-and-red

Russians do the same but with a different more brutal style, they attack and occupy with the military once they've secured a settlement, claiming it was their territory all the time.

Once again the Toad's lips are moving and BS is being spewed. He must have cleaned up the crystal ball for this one. The Chinese government has little regard for their own people but will use any transgressions for leverage on trade or other financial issues. The Chinese people, if they have even heard of this issue, may decide Thailand is not their destination of choice however.
