Pattaya OKs 197.4 million baht for 37 projects

PATTAYA:--The Pattaya City Council approved the spending of 197.4 million baht for 37 projects through 2019.

Council Chairman Anan Ankanawisan led the Sept. 26 meeting that covered projects that were budgeted this year, but funds were never spent. The council approved the rollover of unspent funds to 2019.

Among the 37 projects are improvements to Koh Larn’s Ta Wean Beach, the municipal office building, construction of a viewpoint at Ta Wean Beach, expansion of the Pukplub Canal in Naklua, and funding to continue the removal of 50,000 tons of excess garbage on Koh Larn and removal of encroaching structures at Sukhawadee House.

Council members bemoaned how money constantly is budgeted, but foot-dragging and red tape mean that the projects never proceed and the money gets wasted when budget approvals expire.

Case in point, Councilman Thanet Supornsahatrangsi complained, was the already approved repair of the city council’s own sound system. Funds were approved three months ago and nothing has been done since.

I wonder how much as been allocated to a better trash collection and management service, and also a sewerage system upgrade ?

Upgrade ? As far as I can tell, there is no sewage treatment plant that serves Pattaya other than the bay ????

No worries, Kamnan Poh's clan is back in charge. There will be no budgeted ฿฿฿ left unspent going forward. His supervision comes on a low commision basis in % terms. A redo of the Beach Rd malecon should be in the offing.

It is a pet peave of us falang to see the slack rubbish collection but I'm starting to think they actually want it this way,  but I'm not exactly sure on the reasoning why they don't mind having trash around the place. Kind of like a hoarders mindset.  It gives peace of mind maybe.
