Khao San set for million dollar makeover in "Half Walking Street" idea

The Bangkok Authorities are proposing what the Thai media are calling a "Half Walking Street" idea for Khao San Road.

Stung by criticism of its efforts to clear up the area deputy governor Sakonthee Patthiyakun is now proposing that 88 million baht will be spent on the road to make it a "landmark" once again.

Half the money will go on leveling the road with "beautiful granite" while the rest will be spent on a roof.

There are two plans - both include having a thoroughfare for traffic of one lane either in the middle or on one the side with traders allowed on the rest.

When they decide what is best the BMA will have a meeting to look at the idea.

Probably form a committee with a half-working brain.

There again, the half of it that is working has already been used trying to deflect criticism for the cock-up they've made.

Have they changed the currency in the country, or are the funds coming from US, Australia or Hong Kong?

No, it's in US $, 1 million for Khao San Road, the rest in the pockets.

I remember 25 years ago during hard rain the KSR was flooded deep, i sat at a bar along the road and there was like 30-40 cm water inside the bar.

After that they repaired the whole road, but have to do it again now...And why a roof? It will get very hot.
