Credit - Car/motorbike/tv

Featured Replies

I was wondering how easy it is for a foreigner to get credit in Thailand. If you are working with a valid work permit, then can you get credit for Cars, Motorbikes and other large purchases?

I presume that most foreigners don't buy new Cars right out, but I may be wrong.

I once asked in Carrefour what was required for credit (a 0% deal on a 42" LCD TV), and I was told a work permit and some other documents - I couldn't quite understand the details of the these 'other documents' though.

I'm not in the habbit of paying for everything on credit, but it'd be nice to know what the options are, especially when they've got 0% deals etc.

I'm not working and I don't have a work permit but I did get credit in Thailand to buy a car.

I do have a military pension and had to show the deposits from it to my Thai bank account.

I also gave them a copy of the letter from the U.S. Consulate confirming I had a pension.

My wife also had to co-sign for me as well as show her bank account information.
