BANGKOK, 11th October 2018 (NNT) - The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has celebrated World Habitat Day 2018 with the main objective being to achieve the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Minister of Social Development and Human Security Gen.Anantaphon Kanchanarat, this week presided over the Housing For All: World Habitat Day Thailand 2018 event and presented plaques to individuals and organizations which have contributed to the development of housing for low-income people.

World Habitat Day, designated by the UN, is observed on the first Monday of October every year. Its purpose is to raise awareness of a shortage of housing or inappropriate housing and find solutions to such a problem. In 2018, the worldwide theme of World Habitat Day is Municipal Waste Management. As for Thailand, this year’s World Habitat Day event focuses on shelter for all.

The Cabinet approved a new city development plan on 11 October 2016 and assigned the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and the Ministry of Interior to develop a plan for sustainable urban development.

The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has implemented a master plan on 20-year housing development from 2017 - 2036 with the goal to ensure shelter for all Thais particularly more than 3 million low-income households.
