Thailand has declared three days of mourning for the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi who died in a helicopter crash near the border of Azerbaijan and Iran. During these days, all flags on government buildings and state companies will fly at half-mast. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has ordered the mourning period, which will be observed on May 23rd, 24th and 27th. The break on May 25th is due to the Visaka Bucha public holiday.

The fatal crash happened on a Sunday afternoon in a remote mountain region. Alongside President Raisi, the helicopter was carrying other top officials, including the Foreign Affairs Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. They all lost their lives in the accident. President Raisi was 63.

The death of President Raisi has led to Thailand expressing its deep condolences to Iran. The two countries share a 400-year strong relationship. The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement to show its support for Iran during this difficult time, reinforcing the strength of the diplomatic ties between them.

This is a person behind the execution of people protesting or the barbarian religious morality police that are widely acknoweledged of beating Mahsa Amini so severely she died because she wasn't wearing her hijab up to governmen standards. The people at the top of Iran are complete monsters and Thailand puts flags at half mast. Absolutely disgusting.

Yes, you can now see just how true it is that Prayuth was better.

The difficult time in Iran is for the people who hate the fanatical religious government and it's morality police and it's fundementalists laws. I'll guarantee there's some celebrating going on. The problem is of course when one fundementalist dies (got knocked off????) another madman will replace him.

Where is the connection, this is quite surprising news,

But as said before, Thailand is a dictatorship who hold their friends close, be it China, Usa or Russia, and now Iran.

People got disappeared under Prayut. People were jailed for protesting under the weaponised Section 112. Absolutely no bragging rights when it comes to Prayut.

More and more evidence that Thailand under Srettha is not only "bending" towards China but becoming a full fledged member of the China/Russia/North Korea/Iran axis.

So, Prayuth is out of thai politics, or wait,

It's no longer valid to do a Srettha to Prayuth comparison. The true comparison now is Thaksin to Prayuth, because Thaksin is now back and fully in control.

I don't feel to say what I really think so no comment.

Axis applies to the term as it was initially used, where a European land power combined with an Asian expansionist (along with their allies) to start World War II.

Yes and Axis of Evil applies to George W. Bush's reference to Iran, Iraq and North Korea. So what's your point?

If you think going with authoritarianism and fundementalist theocracies is the way to go then you have a right to that opinion. I think many on here would like to know your reasoning behind this though.

That's what the entire world do.

Can you name just one country that's not embracing their own intimate favorites?

No it wasn't.

Latest I could find on official Iran Thai relations

Dr Raisi in the ceremony of receiving credentials of the new Thai Ambassador:

Iran ready to further improve level of relations with Thailand/ Iran's readiness to exchange capabilities in various fields with Thailand / Thai Ambassador expresses hope for his country to benefit from Iran's capabilities in scientific and economic fields

Dont you find it kind of strange the west kept  Thailand under their arms even after two military two coups during the last 20 years?

Strategic reasons, economical reasons? We know what Thailand wil do if China starts moving, they will make themselves useful, and with this flag day, they officially mark they are with not only Iran, but China and Russia! This is an official stand for those powers. Even Iran is behind Hamas terror attack where 20 thais still hostage or so?

it can also be seen as a protest against Israel!

why should everyone follow the US? what is wrong with Thailand having close ties to Russia, China Iran, or anyone else for that matter...just because the Usa doesn't like them? Many would call Israel Terrorists, but the US and many on here love them.

WT....?

World leaders in kow-towing and fence sitting.....embarrassing !
