IO's to the rescue!

Went to Jomtien Immigration for TM30 and a 30-day extension. I find all the paperwork puzzling and regularly use the services outside. This time I was surprised by being told I had to pay a 1300-baht fine. For what? I was following all the rules. No, I must pay. I refused and took my paperwork inside after paying for the filled-out paperwork. I was sent to RM 10 first to take care of the TM30. I had a 20-minute wait. The IO told me I did not need to be there, that there is no need to report when returning to your previous address after traveling inside the country. So I went from a 1300bt fine to a "No need to report". Well, good news. Now to start the long process for a 30-day extension. I was given a number. I looked up and my number was posted overhead. I handed over the paperwork, passport and 1900 baht fee. Five minutes later I was out the door with extension approved. Now that's fast!

Maybe the fine was for wasting their time filling in needless paperwork?

They apparently did not notice you had only traveled within the country. If they had noticed that they might of told you that it was not needed. Jomtien has not been reported as wanting reports after traveling within the country.

Yeah Imm at Jomtien is good.

If you are on retirement or tourist - yes.  But horrible if you want a Non-O 90-day stamp (near impossible - made-up non-rules galore) and problematic for a marriage extension (especially if you do not own your own condo - as if that should be at all relevant).

Sorry, I made it quite clear I was coming from Chiang Mai. Something about reporting residence was said, although it was the same person who helped with the initial TM30 to that address and had the paperwork in their hands.

Should have said, "Not needed!"
