My fiancee, my baby son and myself have been on LOS nearly three months now and are looking to do a visa run at the end of the month however, my employer tells me my work permit is expected next week, although I know we still have to do a run as we are not yet married.

My query is my fiancee has been offered employment (part time) as a teachers assistant at a local school; she travelled here on a non-O multiple, what procedure is there to get her non-O changed to a non-B so she can legally work?

Someone mentioned maybe a letter from her prospective employer to take with her when she does her visa run - would this be sufficient? Also we are based in Pattaya and have had people suggest different destinations for our run, ie Cambodia, Singapore, Lao... which is best if we were to try to obtain a Non-B from a Non-O

Thanks in anticipation

This advice contradicts what I have been told..........

Get better advice sir!

There are many members of TV with Work Permits against non-o visas (myself included).

There are even cases of people getting a WP against a non-o/a (retirement) visa, which was always considered impossible.

But of course, it's up2u what you do :o

Our first three months is up the end of this month, my WP is in process and should be here either this or next week, my fiancee has been offered work but not to start until the end of the month, do you think we still have to do a visa run?

Time is of the essense

OK, a highly simplified view.

YOU.

Once you get your WP you will be mildly miffed to see it's only valid until the end of your current permit to stay. You then visit immigration with all your company crud and get your stay extended usually to 1 year (this assumes you meet the salary requirements for a 'business' extension of stay), then it's back to the labour office to get your WP extended to match your new permit to stay.

The LADY

Since she's not started the WP process a border hop to get a further 90 days would be a smart idea. Then see above once she starts the WP process.

NOTE. If you don't meet the requirements to get a business extension, you still do 90 day border runs and get your WP updated after each.

That's how it worked last time I renewed my WP, I don't think much has changed, anyone else got more recent experience?

The only curve ball is the new requirement for police check of teachers for visa issue. Are they going to accept a visa that was not subject to this check? I would suggest posting in the teaching forum for the latest information if indeed that is the employment she will receive.

lopburi3 As usual I always appreciate your input :o

My partner has a degree in Education and has copies of same, she has been offered work and the school is in the process of applying for a WP for her, although as suspected we will still have to do a visa run as our first three months are coming up the end of this month

Good point old-bean. Slipped my notice as I'm not a teacher, be interesting to see where this goes.

The original poster and his financee are more than welcome to add to one of the topics on police checks for teachers, but this is Thailand, so nobody knows. It seems to maybe appear that perhaps it could depend upon what consulate she visits, what nationality she is, what mood the person behind the counter is in, etc. Good luck.
