BANGKOK, 18th October 2018 (NNT) – Several political parties have launched campaigns seeking members and possible candidates for the House of Representatives.

The Action Coalition Party for Thailand has released a short film introducing its agenda on Facebook and is to launch a traveling caravan to sign up new members as soon as legally allowed. It is targeting 100,000 new members before a major party meeting and has confirmed its stance of avoiding conflict and dissent among parties.

The Phalang Pracharat Party has opened a Pracharat Intelligence Institute intended to create a new generation of leaders and to collect the views of various groups. The institute has invited leaders in various areas to join them and exchange opinions both on politics and other topics. The party says it wishes to see the institute become a lasting fixture beyond the general election.

The Future Forward Party has campaigned for members in Ayuthaya province with existing members attending a seminar at Rajabhat Phra Nakhon Sri Ayuthaya University, hoping to attract youths to the political scene.

The Democrat Party meanwhile has continued its process of choosing a new leader with the latest news indicating it has scheduled a debate between candidates at 9:30am on October 26 to 4pm of the same day so that it may be broadcast to members. It is yet to conclude when a rally of members will officially take place and is maintaining a target of between November 1 and 5. So far, 30,000 members have indicated their choice of party leader.

Deputy Prime Minister for Legal Affairs Wissanu Kreau-ngam has asked that political parties adhere to National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) regulations on campaigning and reminded the public that any violations can be reported to the NCPO or the Election Commission. He expressed personal agreement with an Election Commission suggestion that party members who are currently Cabinet ministers avoid engaging in activities that could be construed as campaigning at Government House.
