Department of Lands terminates the use of photocopies

BANGKOK, 20th October 2018 (NNT) - The Department of Lands has announced the termination of the use of photocopies of national identification cards and house registration books. 

Mr. Prayoon Rattanasenee, Director General of the Department of Lands, recently announced that the department has announced the termination of the use of copies of national identification cards and house registration books, or copies of letters of juristic person certification in using services at land offices all over the nation. 

The termination is to afford convenience and remove the burden on members of the public when using the services. An order has been issued that all officers in land offices across the nation must strictly conform to the announcement. 

In case it is necessary to use other documents issued by the government in investigations and examinations in registering rights and juristic acts and other immovable property transactions, the officer must notify the government agency issuing the official document to deliver the information or copy of the document unless the individual intends to bring the document himself. 

In case it is necessary to transcribe house registration books and national identification cards or other official documents, in consideration of the benefit of the operation of the Department of Lands, the officer must create the transcript personally without asking for any transcription fees. 

In case of authorizing another person to act on one’s behalf, a signed copy of the authorized person’s national identification card must be used. The change is part of the direction of national reformation to accommodate the changes in keeping with the Thailand 4.0 policy.

If i am getting this right ,the officer now has to transcribe it personally,ye gods it takes long enough already,with photo copies,next time we go i will tell the Mrs we will take a tent with us.

No doubt Thai Immigration needs the warehouses used by the Land Department in order to store the libraries of photocopies generated every year.

Doing my seventh extension recently, living same place with my wife (who accompanied me during the first three years or so).

After handing in all kind of copies of my documents the IO asks:

You live with your wife?

Yes! (why the hell do you ask again).

Do you have copy of her ID card, housebook?

:crazy:

Aehm...

After digging through my pool of papers in the briefcase: FOUND!

And signed by wife with blue pen.

(no idea how many they already have not to speak of mine)

A court person to notarize the document. Is already paid by the court so no fee should be paid or a minimal fee of say 20baht.

I am doing extension based on retirement (easier).

No need to have the wife with me.

And not every man has one :biggrin:

 

In the first years I did in case of translation needs.

And yes, I am aware that they might ask for proof of residence.

So that's what is behind the question about where I live.

But hey, after seven years unchanged they could really save the copies.

And last year I can't remember handing in.

What in hell's name does this classic bit of land-office jargon mean? How will this photocopy ban 'afford' convenience or even provide convenience for the public and which 'burden' will the measure remove? Why can't Prayoon, the mealy-mouthed spokesperson, just come straight out with it and say the measure is just to stop the cheating public from . . . yes, from cheating, what else? Whether or not photocopies of I/D items should be acceptable as evidence of identity has been an issue that land offices have had to mull-over (a nice bit of official-speak) for the past 20 years or more. What has happened to changed the issue, now, all of a sudden?

I feel your pain, which after a decade of filing the same forms over and over and over and over again with mind-numbing consistency - I gave up and went with a retirement visa this year.  I think I killed 1/3 less trees and it took 1/2 the time. 
My favorite experience from the yearly spouse extension: 
IO: "You have map to house mai?"
<I hand the IO a Google map showing the path from Immigration to my front door, in detail, with the path clearly highlighted in yellow highlighter>
IO: "Map no good." <Hands wife paper> "Wife draw map in Thai."
Wife: <Draws three lines at 90 angles to each other apparently showing the 30 km to our home. Scribbles in her illegible Thai script.  Hands to IO>
IO: "Krap khun.  Dee kun!"
Me: <Head-shake, stifles laugh, eye-roll>

I too thought that they were going for the "paperless office" concept. But then I remembered that we were galloping full speed into Thailand 4.0!

This has to go down as the most confusing brain fart farted. 

 

No copies? What will 90% of the govt employees have to do?
