Huay Yai landlord arrested for killing tenant

PATTAYA:--A Huay Yai landlord was arrested for allegedly shooting his tenant dead in a dispute over the lease.

Panom Mukakung, 61, was captured at a hotel in Nonthaburi Oct. 20, almost a week after he allegedly used a shotgun pistol to shoot Saree Yasoongneon, 47, in the eye at his Huay Yai Moo 6 village home.

The suspect confessed that he fled the scene in his Mitsubishi Mirage and threw away the gun before leaving the truck at a friend’s house. He then took a bus to Suphan Buri before returning to rent a room in Nonthaburi.

Saree was killed following a fistfight between the two men. The dead man had come to Panom’s house to discuss renewing a lease for land behind the landlord’s home where he planned to build a house.

This is exactly why the amendment to the Consumer Protection Act which attempted to reign in rogue landlords was woefully inadequate.  There are crazy landlords in Thailand that will steal, lock-out tenants, and apparently kill when any tenant dispute arises.  Good luck getting your security deposits refunded.

...I think a proper Thai way of viewing this incident is "...well, the problem has been solved. The dispute will not continue, whatever it was."
It sucks being a landlord OR a tenant in today's world, anywhere. Rental Leases are somewhat of a joke. Imagine if one could "not pay Honda or Toyota because they found a better deal elsewheres."

Leases are designed to aid the tenant, not the landlord. This guy obviously took matters a tad far.

Condolences to his family and friends. It was a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
