webfact
Right-wing Bolsonaro wins Brazil presidential race By Jake Spring and Anthony Boadle Jair Bolsonaro, far-right lawmaker and presidential candidate of the Social Liberal Party (PSL), gestures at a polling station in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil October 28, 2018. REUTERS/Pilar Olivares BRASILIA (Reuters) - Former Army captain Jair Bolsonaro won Brazil's presidential election on Sunday, riding a wave of frustration over corruption and crime that brought a dramatic swing to the right in the world's fourth-largest democracy, official results show. With 94 percent of the ballots counted, Bolsonaro had 56 percent of the votes in the run-off election against left-wing hopeful Fernando Haddad of the Workers Party (PT), who had 44 percent, according to the electoral authority TSE. Bolsonaro's rise has been propelled by rejection of the leftist PT that ran Brazil for 13 of the last 15 years and was ousted two years ago in the midst of a deep recession and political graft scandal. Laura Chinchilla, the former president of Costa Rica who is head of the Organization of American States' Electoral Observation Mission, said the vote had been calm and orderly across the country, which has suffered a spate of partisan violence during the campaign. Many Brazilians are concerned that Bolsonaro, an admirer of Brazil's 1964-1985 military dictatorship and a defender of its use of torture on leftist opponents, will trample on human rights, curtail civil liberties and muzzle freedom of speech. The 63-year-old seven-term congressman has vowed to crack down on crime in Brazil's cities and farm belt by granting police more autonomy to shoot at criminals. He also wants to let more Brazilians buy weapons to fight crime. Sure, it is either that or an intelligent political analysis. Men of military rank have a shady history as state leaders, just ask the dead. 727Sky
When Rodrigo Duterte was elected and said he was going to clean up crime and shoot drug dealers you would have thought the socialist left wing people were going to vapor lock. If anyone has been to the Philippines lately the changes are quite dramatic. Agree with his methods or not... They worked for the Philippines. The Brazilian economy is a disaster, politics have been a thuggish thoroughly rotten endeavor for way to long. Street crime is so bad that seven Brazilian cities are classified in the world’s 20 most violent. With a 12% unemployment rate things have been steadily going down hill for way to long IMO. Time for a change

The drug problem is caused by prohibition, so it won't be solved. There is not "crime cleaning", the state is criminal when it prohibits drugs and shoot people around. State power increase is much more dangerous and far worse deadly.
