Visa exempt issued in my case?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

In a few days I will fly to Bangkok without a visa. I'm now starting to get nervous that I may have problems getting a visa exempt stamp. I have stayed in Thailand for long times on a few occassions. My last stay was from September 2017 till May 2018 (I got 2 tourist + extensions). So it will be 6 months since my last visit. I'm just going to Thailand now for 2 weeks and I will have a return ticket, 20.000 baht in cash and hotel bookings.

What are my chances of getting interrogated/detained at the airport? I'm 31 years old and I'm from The Netherlands.

You shouldn't have a problem, having been away 6 months. Having a return ticket and hotel bookings will help a lot if questioned.

You reduce your chances of being questioned if you have a Tourist Visa. I'd recommend you use Tourist Visas in the future and only enter with visa exemption if absolutely necessary.

It would be better if you had a tourist visa, even though only planning a two-week stay. You may well be questioned, trying to enter visa exempt. How many previous visa exempt entries have you had since the middle of 2015? If the answer is six or more, the chances of being questioned increase. I doubt you will be denied entry after this questioning, but it is possible. Besides the cash, flight and hotel bookings, ensure you are well groomed and neatly dressed. Good luck!
