30 day extension (tourism) + 60 day (marriage)

Featured Replies

Last time I went to immigration (Jomtien) I got a 30 day extension based on tourism. I heard it is possible to go again now and get another 60 days based on marriage. Is that correct. I have no visa - just visa exempt - not left the country since the extension - I'm married - I'm British.

I would think not possible as you are here as a tourist, however, why not ask your local Imm' office.

Some immigration offices will issue a 60 day extension to visit your Thai wife after already getting the 30 day extension but I am not sure about Jomtien. You could try.

The 60 day extension can be issued for any type of entry. It does not have to be for a non-o visa entry.

Thanks Joe, will call in and ask. Was hoping to be back at work by now but it's not happening. Gonna have to be a run to Savannakhet if they say no.

Would the TM30/28 be required or would that be office dependant?

My TM 30 is up to date, not left the country since, so I think no need.

Sounds good to go. Post back and let us know. ????

It would be office dependent.

A TM28 would only be needed for a change of address and some offices only want the TM30 form for those.

Yes. My local office don't worry about a few nights away, only for a permanent or long term change of address/place of residence.

They have done this in the past without issue.  In addition to the TM-30, the trouble you may encounter has to do with "landlord-docs" which are requested at the "family" desk, in addition to a current TM-30.

If you own your own condo, no problem - just bring your condo-docs and the wife.

If you rent, you will need landlord-signed copies of the rental-contract, their ID-Card, their house-book, the house-book for where you live, and the chanote (purchase /ownership document) of where you live.

This is the starting-point for anything based on "married to a Thai" at that office, and they may ask for "newer copies" or other things to try to push you to an agent - though perhaps the additional bs is only for the annual-extension, so they would give 60-days if you have that list covered.

Thanks Jack, I've been several times already for the 60 extension based on marriage, my TM 30 is current. So no problem there. I did the 30 extension (tourism) first because I heard you can go back and then still do the 60 day marriage extension - but only after the tourism extension, in that order. just wondering really if anyone has done the same recently.

I always had an up-to-date TM-30 (for years).  I did the 60 extension after the 30 extension, based on a tourist-entry, right after I got married (a couple years back).  That was just before the "family desk" started the landlord-doc runaround for renters.

The only unusual denials I have read for the 60-days (and marriage-extensions, generally) in that office were renters hit with the landlord-doc policy.  So, unless they have changed policy on getting two extensions (30 and then 60), and assuming you own your own condo, you should be OK.  Maybe take the wife somewhere nice afterwords, as thanks for dealing with the staff-members at that desk for you (they probably won't talk to you at all).

Just been to Immigration at Soi 5, Jomtien today. Got 60 days extension based on family.

That is after I already had a 30 day extension based tourism - sightseeing.

I entered the country on 30 day visa exempt.

Thanks for everyone's input.
