Visa advice for border run to Malaysia

Featured Replies

Hello,

I need some visa advice. I have to leave the Kingdome this week and plan to travel to Malaysia. My plan is to cross the border and come back to Thailand the next day using my second visa exempt. I already have following in my passport:

2017

2 flight in visa exempt (1- 30days extended)

2018

2 flight in visa exempt
1 land border visa exempt
1 SETV from Vientiane

(all of them are 30 days extended)

I know that I can cross the border 2 times per year with the exempt stamp. (German citizen)

My question is do I get any problems if I cross the border of Malaysia and come back to Thailand the next day? I already booked my flight out of Thailand in December.

What could be the worst case?

Should I better apply for a SETV in Penang? When not which border point should I pass?

Thanks a lot for an answer in advance!

Jan

Next-day should be fine - but they are known to ask to see your "pocket money" cash.  The rule for visa-exempt is minimum 10K Baht, but at some locations (airports, that I remember), some IOs demanded to see 20K Baht.  The money can be in any convertible currency, and travelers checks should be OK.

Having a flight-out within 30-days of your entry-date could help solve any further questions by an IO as to your plans in Thailand.

We don't have any reports recently of land-border entries being blocked for those carrying the required cash - aside from one poster who had a few overstays.  But Malaysian points are reported to insist one stay out a day before returning.

Sorry, missed that point.  I would enter By Train via Pedang Besar.
