Defamation

6) You will not post comments that could be reasonably construed as defamation or libel.

Defamation is the issuance of a statement about another person or business which causes that person to suffer harm. It does not have to be false to be defamatory. Libel is when the defamatory statement is published either in a drawing, painting, cinematography, film, picture or letters made visible by any means, or any other recording instruments, recording picture or letters, or by broadcasting or spreading picture, or by propagation by any other means. Defamation is both a civil and criminal charge in Thailand.

Having read the original post, I suggest that the OP posts the details again without naming names.

It was, I thought, an important reminder to all just how poor customer service can sometimes be here, and how different branches of what appears to be the same company may behave very differently and may not even be related at all.

And posting it again may result in other members giving details of other repair shops that have done a better job.

I agree with you that no names can be mentioned.

The post left thaivisa and the poster wide open to litigation.

As the forum rule states :

Libel is when the defamatory statement is published either in a drawing, painting, cinematography, film, picture or letters made visible by any means, or any other recording instruments, recording picture or letters, or by broadcasting or spreading picture, or by propagation by any other means. Hi Ron,

Sincere apologies from me as it never occurred to me that I was being defamatory to anyone except the thief who stole the components from my laptop.  In fact, I was quite complementary of the 'Krabi Town company' in my post.

My original post took me a while to construct, and was intended to be helpful / beneficiary to fellow TV members, could you have not simply edited it and deleted the 'offending' words?

Is it ok to put 'Well known Thai IT company' ?  or should I simply say 'IT company' or IT shop?

Btw, I recall a thread a short while ago about Ford motor company....do the defamation rules not apply also to all those who replied talking of their experiences with Ford Thailand?

Regards, Ray.

Before you re post I would rather hand this over to management to be safe so if you give me to Monday or Tuesday.

I understand what you have just said so leave it with me.

No worries Ron, it can wait.  My intention was/is to simply 'spread the word' which may help other TV members awareness of this kind of theft.  I've been in this lovely country for over 17 years and have been subjected to more than a few scams in that time but this one never occurred to me...until now of course.

Regards, Ray.

Btw Ron, I sent you a PM with my 'revised post' for you to consider but I forgot to copy n' paste it to a word document.  It took me ages to type so any chance you can PM it back to me whenever convenient?

No Problem as I now realise it's in my 'messages' tab.

I'm off now to dismantle and check on whats left of my laptop ????

Have a great weekend.

Regards, Ray.
