South Koreans arrested for running online betting racket in Pattaya

Police in Pattaya announced the arrest of four South Koreans and a Thai woman who were running an online sports betting operation out of two rooms at an upmarket North Pattaya condo.

A raid at the Ping Pha condominium netted evidence in the form of money, phones and computers.

The operation had a monthly turnover of 10 million baht with 1,000 customers in South Korea.

Bets were taken on such sports as baseball, football and basketball using the www.ref-tt.com site.

Arrested on warrants yesterday were Song Kwang Hyun, 28, Yoon Dong Seong, 26, Choi Jihoon, 28, Park Byun Guk, 19 and twenty four year old Apiwan Wongkhamsing, 24, whose name was on rental documents.

The Koreans had been in Thailand for six months. They were originally working in Bangkok before they moved to Pattaya to begin the betting operation in August.

In addition Park Byun Guk was wanted on a Korean warrant for falsifying documents in his home country that led to losses of over 10 million baht, reported Rak Siam News on Facebook.

Why can't they run this from a remote village in S-Korea? Better internet lines over there and they can hide behind VPNs etc.

Don't understand why they all have to come to Thailand. They can't hide here when Big Joke's around.
