I used to hold a Non ED visa and it has expired on July (I have finished my studying). Before it expired, I came back to my home country (Vietnam) by air without re-entry because I do not need to re entry under Non ED visa anymore. I got a job in Bangkok and now I am holding the Non B visa (with work permit). I will go to extend my visa next week but I have heard some news that I have to cancel my Non ED first in order to extend my Non B visa (even though at first I thought if I leave the country without re-entry permit, my Non ED visa will be cancelled automatically?) Is it true since there were 2 different opinions about it?

I don't think immigration will want to see the your extension based upon attending a school was fromally canceled.

The only reports I have seen of people having a problem was when a previous extension based upon working was not canceled.

So it would be ok if I dont cancel my Non Ed? Because I want to extend my Non B visa as soon as possible and I dont want to have any problems since I need the extension to apply for travelling visa later.

I see no reason your invalid extension canceled.

You will apply for a re-entry permit after you get your extension not a visa.
