The Manpower Association of Cambodia and the Association of Cambodian Recruitment Agencies yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Thai-Cambodian Relation Association to protect migrant workers in Thailand. The MoU was signed in the presence of Labour Minister Ith Samheng yesterday at a hotel in Phnom Penh and is aimed at protecting the rights and welfare of migrants workers in Thailand.

Mr Samheng congratulated the three groups for cooperating with each other. “This MoU is a new mechanism to protect Cambodian workers working in Thailand and adds to protections already in place,” he noted.

He said that the MoU is also aimed at helping undocumented Cambodian workers in Thailand who face deportation and also helps combat transnational human trafficking. Mr Samheng requested the NGOs to consider providing temporary housing arrangements for migrant workers in Thailand who are in the process of changing jobs.
