New situation whilst submitting application for one-year retirement extension at Jomtinen. Wife (not Thai) is following my visa. From the beginning, five years ago, we have given copy of Finnish marriage certificate only, no problems. Today, told marriage certificate must be certified by Embassy of Finland and Department of Consular Affairs. Supposedly "certified" is a new rule. Has anybody experienced this situation?

Is certification stamp from embassy and consular affairs enough for immigration? Or before going to embassy and consular affairs does marriage certificate need to be translated to Thai and Thai/English certificates are verified?

No chance to sort this earlier as returned to Thailand on Thursday after five weeks away - visa expires on 13 November.

I am surprised you have not been asked for your marriage certificate to be legalized before. Immigration has been asking for it for a while now.

You will need to check with the embassy to find out if they can do it. For some countries it can only be done at an authority there.

A translation is not needed for the Department of Consular Affairs.

Thanks for quick response.

Last extension was in 2017, copy was good enough. Told it was a new rule this year. Checked with Finish embassy, shouldn't be a problem. Ok, no translation for Consular Affairs, how about immigration? Any idea of process/where to go in Consular Affairs?

If immigration has been accepting your marriage certificate without a translation it should not be needed now.

Info for getting the legalization done is here. http://www.consular.go.th/main/th/services/6441/71860-ขั้นตอนการรับรองนิติกรณ์เอกสาร---Legalization-Proc.html  Click on the the Enlish version to enlarge it (ignore the traslation check mentioned). Note to save another trip to Bangkok you can have it sent to you by EMS. Application form is here: Application for legalization.doc
