Our picture today shows the moment when crime buster supreme Maj-Gen Surachate "Big Joke" Hakparn finally caught up with an alleged Ponzi schemer.

The Maj-Gen, now head of Thai immigration had been on the case since the days he was deputy chief at the tourist police.

Back on 27th February 30 victims had gone to the cops to complain that they had been ripped off by Nannapas or "Beam" aged 38.

They were taken in by pictures of Beam with a big fancy house, luxury car and expensive possessions. High interest rates were promised to investors.

The crime followed a familiar pattern with interest being paid at the start then drying up. There are thought to be 200 victims in total having parted with 100 million baht.

One person invested 3 million, reported Sanook.

Big Joke confronted Beam at national police HQ yesterday. She had been arrested in Ubon on two warrants issued in Chonburi and  Chumpae. She was apprehended as she was building a new house.

She denied the charges of fraud and even said that she had not received money that was rightfully hers.

Meanwhile Surachate told Sanook that her associates had fled over the border.

He promised that they would all be in custody soon and that assets would be seized and returned to their rightful owners.

Sanook referred to the Maj-Gen as deputy at the tourist police in their story.

Wot! No 5 metre poster. That's two Big Joke news stories today (illegal teachers the other) and not a poster in sight for either of them. Must be a record.

I was wondering too what ever happened to those 4' x 10' posters . Maybe they have become inactive and sent to an inactive poster post.

YOUR CONFUSED MATE

Tourist Police are same as any other Police dept and they have FULL arrest powers

You are probably thinking of Tourist Police volunteers who have no arrest powers

You are 100% wrong, tourist police have no powers of arrest.

A troll post has been reported and removed, the replies were removed as well.

Why is the head immigration even involved in this now? Busy man!
