"Don't know much about Thailand", so your subjective opinion decides who knows what?. I know my experience, I live here and work here and as I said Thai people smile at me every day. So your experience is different? There could be many reasons for that; might not have 100% to do with Thai people. Check out Schoggibueb's post. -

It would also mean that somebody on the airside had to have 2 identical suitcases to hers, that person would have to carry the suitcases into the airside baggage area, know which suitcases were hers, swap the labels over, remove her suitcases from the area and hide them, all on full view of the other shift workers and the CCTV cameras. The alternative scenario would be somewhat similar if it was done in the hotel. The problem with that is that most people would shower and put on clean clothes from the suitcase, lock the suitcase and get it carried down to the check out of the hotel. The bags could also have been swapped by the taxi driver who took her to the airport. Then she would go to the airport and check her bags, where one of the questions is usually "Did you pack your bags yourself"? All of theses scenarios involve more than one person other than her and TBH, even though I wrote them, I still wouldn't believe any of them.
