Most first-time young voters vow to cast election ballot, study finds

By The Nation

Most young people who will be eligible to vote for the first time in the upcoming election, tentatively set for February 24, fully intend to cast their ballot, a new opinion poll has found.

The survey was carried out by Bangkok University and included 1,202 people nationwide. The respondents just turned 18 or were a few years older, making them first-time voters.

The study found that 78.6 per cent of the respondents said they would vote in the next general election, while 15.1 per cent said they would not and the remainder were still undecided.

As well, up to 85.8 per cent of the respondents said they have been monitoring political developments on social media.

Asked what they would like to see in the next election, 57.9 per cent said they want an app for casting votes, while 39.6 per cent said they want apps that show information on election candidates.

The remaining participants said they want an app that remind them of the timing and venues for voting.

"...The survey was carried out by Bangkok University and included 1,202 people nationwide..."

When I read an article in the Newspaper that shall not be Named, it stated VERY clearly that this survey was conducted in Bangkok and its immediate surroundings. It even named the 14 Bangkok districts and the 2 adjacent provinces where it was conducted..

Hey Nation!

Are you REALLY claiming that this survey was conducted "nationwide"? Care to provide some evidence?

i wonder if these pollers know Anything about statistical sampling, significance, margin of error; these measures are never quoted

Youth is wasted on the young; voting will be like backing a non-runner in a one-horse race.

Don't be too rough on the source, as this is the nature of surveys, polls, rankings and whatnot.

Taking a minute percentage as reflective of the whole -

Most polls are conducted in this manner and have little to do with anything, less reality.

Which produces false and inaccurate studies that most eat up and take as gospel.

The dumbing down continues, per usual.

That is quite an astounding poll result and if accurate will be bad news for those pro junta parties. The 78.6% first time voters that will cast their ballots is way above global average as studied by IDEA International. Most youth are disinterested in politics and are less keen to do their civic duties. 85.8% of the youth is monitoring political development is very high and is good news for parties that are anti supression of rights and opinion and have strong views on the abolishment or conscription and curtailing future coups. Very encouraging poll for the future of democracy and that the young still believe in political parties leading the country. I hope the poll is accurate and is representative of the whole country’s youth.

Nice new voting block of young voters, many of whom are students who have been told that they can not be on the streets after dark or associate with the opposite sex openly as to do so will be against the mandates set in force by the current unelected government of military-style old fogies.  Wonder how many clicked 'like' on the Prathet Guu Mee Youtube video?  The power of this voting block may not materialize this current election, but they may be a power to be reckoned with in the future.

Let's just hope they are not as hopelessly brainwashed as their parents.

Be interesting to see if the dinosaurs have any idea how to court the young voters

Thailand 4.0 backstabbing the Prayut government?

If the pool is reliable, It's not good news for the Junta as the are perceive as completely square and unfashionable by young people.

" have any idea how to court the young voters" into using their votes in a meaningful way to kick the arse of those dictating unreasonable restrictions on todays youth.

We all have our misgivings about polls.  The young better vote, as their future is going to be taken from them by a police state.  Thailand use to be fun, hopeful and unsafe.  Today it is just unsafe.  Brought to you by junta: unelected, Thailand wide

A big disappointment coming to them when they figure out the junta rigged the system so it doesn't matter who they'll vote in. Just a bunch of puppets.
