New Toyota Thai League football team Samut Prakan City have announced they are delaying the naming of their new chairman and operating team.

The club - previously known as Pattaya City - has moved from the resort to the province south east of Bangkok for the 2019 season.

They were expected to name controversial figure Chonsawat Asavahame as chairman but this has been postponed indefinitely.

Thaivisa notes that trouble has dogged Chonsawat and his family for decades.

Known as "Big A" his celebrity-politician family has effectively run the province of Samut Prakan.

After a 16 year legal wrangle he was convicted in 2015 of election tampering after municipal elections in the province in 1990. He was finally ordered jailed.

He is the son of a convicted murderer who fled Thailand to China.

In 2007 he was alleged to have dragged a policeman 100 meters down the road after refusing to take an alcohol test in New Petchaburi Road and trapping the officers hand in the window.

The officer was then allegedly beaten up.

Big A married a Thai/American actress but split up after allegations that he beat her up.

Further news about the status of the club and its new staff is expected soon, reported Thai Rath who said that its supporters had been left hanging by the announcement.
