Prawit ‘Very Disappointed’ By General Who Joins Anti-Junta Party

BANGKOK — Deputy junta chairman Prawit Wongsuwan expressed his disappointment Wednesday at an army general who signed up with a political party opposing his regime.

 

Gen. Yosanant Raicharoen, who slammed the 2014 putsch and called upon the armed forces to “stand with the people” in his speech yesterday, is doing a disservice to the military because of his open criticism, Prawit said.

Why? Isn't that what democratic and free and fair elections are all about - the right to choose.

Sure that is what they are afraid of, that someone will lift the lid on the corruption going on in the army, because the stench that is released then will be unbearable.

This is great. Hopefully other professional soldiers in the higher ranks will follow suit.  Unfortunately, those fine men who oppose the military's involvement in government tend to keep quiet so as not to rock the boat, especially as they are outnumbered by unprofessional generals who are "soldiers" for the sole purpose of lining their own pockets.

 Besides attempting to make ends meet and feed their families, the freedom to choose is on most Thai people minds these days. Every time these dinosaurs open their mouth they step on their own tongues in trying to make the election a foregone conclusion. The trouble is for them is if the people don't like the results, these uniformed pseudo politicians  will be ultimately responsible for the potential fallout. If they think they're feeling the heat now wait till the potential shit hits the fan next year.

Now the military takes sides for who they like and don't. Red shirts out number the elite by far and I predicted this would happen at some point or the other.

The junta's slogan should read My way or the Highway, Democracy would seem to be on its death bed in Thailand, I must confess I'm terribly disappointed in Ret General Prayut for lying through his teeth for six weeks that he wouldn't pull a coup on against the Yingluck Shin Government, so there you are General Prawit , work your way through that.

One of the many things I learned working in the DoD in Canberra for 17 years was that the military spend most of their time watching & jostling each other, rather than - as we civilians tended to think - trying to put us down.

Oh my gawd !  Is it Christmas already ?  Prawit gets scrooged by critical thinking, revolting general.  One does wonder how many may think like him.  An inkling of hope for Thailand.  Might go out and celebrate tonight.

What would interest me are the results of an anonymous poll conducted among the upper ranks of the armed forces as to the following points:

 

1. Did you support the coup?

2. Do you believe coups necessary?

3. Do you believe that the army has a role in running the country or should solely be responsible for defense?

4. Do you believe that there there are a lot of deadwood generals who should be retired off?

 

Obviously NIDA could not be tasked with handling this poll.
