internet dating has now become rotten to the core with fraudsters on just about every site ,,even the site owners are creating fake profiles

the BBC had a progy about catfishers who all seemed to be from nigeria for some reason..

It's a crime that breaks the hearts of victims as well as emptying their bank accounts. Thousands of people lose money to romance frauds each year after being conned on internet dating sites. The criminals are called catfish, and they promise love and marriage to get cash. Reporter Athar Ahmad turns the tables on the fraudsters by using his own fake dating profile to expose the international gangs behind the crime.

Urban Myth.  More likely to happen in Sydney than Patong. 

 

So some facts, Thai Justice is not the circus you think it is.  Any crime, especially one involving a tourist is investigated thoroughly.  The thai dont want the bad press.  Any person claiming assault (sexual or otherwise) needs to produce proof.  But I'm not saying that 2,000THB well placed won't expedite a quick exit from the local cop shop.

The woman on the phone thinks she has a fiancé in the US. But the romantic emails she's been receiving are really coming from a small town in Nigeria.

Laura Lyons has to break the bad news.

She's a private investigator who specialises in tracking down online romance fraudsters, otherwise known as "catfish".

"When you have to go back to individuals and explain to them that this person doesn't exist, they're not real, that is really hard to do," she says.

The catfish are often based in Africa and work from pre-written romantic scripts in internet cafes.

Their stories are designed to tug at the heart strings and to empty bank accounts.

More than a quarter of new relationships now start through a dating website or app, so there's no shortage of potential victims.

Most victims are too embarrassed to go to the police, but there are still 10 catfish crimes a day reported in the UK. Those affected by such scams lose on average around £15,000.

For the very good reason that the transaction (whilst  opaque) mutually benefits both sides.

Anyone that uses TF or Tinder for dating or hook ups has been asked for loan money from the internet girls. They seem to ask more than the bar girls. And they probably make a lot of cash. When asked-  block them or tell them you have 1000 baht for a hour of their time or give them the money and get your 24 hours of internet praise and affection.  Loans to dating site women and bar girls are really gifts or large tips.

And all it takes to determine if she is an online scammer, is a request to meet. If she has a dozen reasons why she cannot meet you, she is busted. Patience allows a man to avoid becoming a dunce. She appears sort of attractive, but I would like to see her without an hours worth of makeup.

In other words, those vultures are people unwilling to work for a living. Millions of those. We all have to have radar, when it comes to detecting who they are. This guy had no radar. No wits. No smarts. No emotional stability, development or maturity.

No. He is not. Do not leave any stranger alone in your apartment, or hotel room. Common sense. And if you do, and you are going to take a shower, make sure everything of value is in a safe, or locked luggage. Why create the temptation? Why take that risk? A sensible person would do that in any country. So no bigotry here. Just smarts.

Had one friend do on line dating with a woman who lived near BKK, so he went to Thailand and

Bangkok. He phoned her number, but her English was barely any, so had the hotel staff talk to

her at the clothing factory. He considered sending her money for bus fare from the factory, but

the staff said not to do that. 3 days later when she did not show, my friend took the bus to the

factory. The woman seen him but was not interested, so small heart break, and she was not as

pretty as her 5 year old picture showed her to be.     Another friend did meet a Thai woman and

dated her for 2 years, she had terrible luck as her aunt died, so he gave her 5000 baht to go home

to the northern village and funeral. 2 months after that her uncle died, so 5000 more baht,

Then her mom died several months later. Over the 2 years she managed to get 20 thousand

baht. Then he surprised her by travelling to her village, and behold! Her Mother and 2 aunts

were alive. Surprise, surprise, romance finished on the spot.

Years ago i lend money to my, at that time, best friend i already knew for years. He never did pay me back one cent. Luckly for me his mom found out (he was an aduld already) and she payed me back.
