Don't give gifts at New Year to state officials, says counter corruption group

The Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand (ACT) has praised various governmental agencies for starting a "no gift at New Year" policy last year. 

 

They want to see the measures continued this year and expanded. 

 

In a letter they praised organisations for doing their bit to stem corruption in Thailand. 

 

The no gift policy was instituted at government ministries such as Public Health and Industry and organizations such as the Electrical Generation Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and Communications Authority of Thailand (CAT). 

 

Gifts are neither received or given in an effort to stem corruption and bribery.

 

The ACT want to see more of the same this New Year.

Hardly the most obvious offices for bribery and corruption!

 

How about tax offices, land offices, police stations and immigration offices (oops forgot! Big Joke has already implemented this policy in the latter)

It’s not necessary to give gifts at New Year. According to official Junta protocol, it’s perfectly fine to give your gifts a week or two early.

Why not.  Prayut gives buffaloes and other gifts and trinkets to the masses.  We're simply reciprocating to lower level officials.  It greases the wheels and makes everything run smoother.

Don't give gratuities at Christmas. Thailand being a buddhist country, give them every week or every month - same as always.

I would say don't give the corrupt bunch of officials any "gifts",  all the year long.
