BANGKOK, 26 November 2018 (NNT) – The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has launched a caravan against violence towards children, women and family members, kicking off a call to no longer tolerate, ignore or engage in violence after statistics placed Thailand among the world’s top ten for domestic violence.

Minister of Social Development and Human Security Gen Anantaporn Kanchanarat released the caravan as part of the kickoff event to campaign against violence towards women, children and family members. The campaign is part of an annual ministry push against such violence and is being conducted under this year’s theme of “He for She”, aimed at encouraging men to play a role in stopping violence. Men are being asked to wear white ribbons to symbolize their solidarity with the cause.

In the central region, the caravan will travel from the ministry to Bangkok City Hall, from the United Nations office to Lan Khon Muang , from Khao Sarn Road to Lan Khon Muang and from Rattanakosin Hotel to Lan Khon Muang. Over 1,300 people are taking part in the activity and announced a resolution to no longer tolerate, ignore or engage in any kind of social violence.

The United Nations counts Thailand among the top ten nations in the world for violence against women and children. The ranking prompted the Ministry of Social Development to step up its campaigning as well as to push for legal moves. It is urging any violence be reported to its 24 hour hotline 1300.

Buddhism in Thailand should be more than going to the temple for “good luck” or merit making. When are the teachings of Buddha taught to its followers??? Seems like many Thais are clueless about respecting one another & nature. Any religious institution has the responsibility to share its teachings/ not just ask money for more temples.
